Murder investigation after body found in Weymouth

Detectives have begun a murder investigation following the discovery of a body at an address in Weymouth. A man and a woman having been arrested.

At around 8am this morning (Nov 8) police discovered the body of a man in a flat along Bath Street in the town centre.

The victim has not yet been identified. Two men and one woman were also injured and are receiving treatment for their injuries.

A cordon has been put in place while crime scene investigators examine the property and officers are also carrying out house-to-house enquiries.

Bath Street is currently closed and Commercial Road is closed between Wesley Street and Bath Street.

Following the discovery of a man’s body and a number of injured people, Dorset Police has launched a murder investigation.

Enquiries are now underway to establish exactly what happened earlier this morning.

I am appealing for anyone who may have witnessed anything suspicious in the Bath Street area this morning to contact us as soon as possible.

All calls will be treated in the strictest of confidence.

Two men have appeared in court accused of murder

Two men appeared in court this morning (Tues 22nd) accused of the murder of 20-year-old soldier Dave Curnow.

Liam Laing, 21, of Chacewater, Cornwall, and Conner Hammond, 21, of Redruth, Cornwall, spoke only to confirm their names and dates of birth.

They are both charged with murdering Mr Curnow, a member of 4 Rifles who spent six months fighting the Taliban in Afghanistan in 2013.

Both defendants were remanded in custody and will have a bail hearing in front of a judge at Bristol Crown Court via video link tomorrow.

Murder investigation begins after man dies following assault in Redruth

Police have launched a murder enquiry after a 20-year-old man died following an assault in Redruth at the weekend.

The local man was found unconscious on the ground by a member of the public following an assault that happened in the Chapel Street area of the town at around 2.45am on Sunday 20 September.

The victim suffered serious head injuries and was taken by ambulance to the Royal Cornwall Hospital, Treliske, before being transferred to Derriford Hospital, Plymouth.

He died as a result of his injuries earlier today (Monday 21 September).

His family have been informed and are being supported by specially trained officers.

Two 21-year-old men, from Redruth and Truro, were arrested shortly afterwards, on suspicion of assault causing grievous bodily harm and further arrested on suspicion of murder.

They were taken into custody at Camborne police station where they remain.

Officers are carrying out house-to-house enquiries in the area.

Detectives from the Major Crime Investigation Team, who are leading the investigation, are appealing for witnesses to a disturbance outside The Zone nightclub on Church Street to get in touch.

We would like to speak to anyone who witnessed a disturbance outside. The Zone night club and anyone who was in the area between 2.30am and 3.30am on Sunday.

Offences like this are exceedingly rare in this area. We are not looking for anyone else in connection with the incident at this time.
