Two men have appeared in court accused of murder

Two men appeared in court this morning (Tues 22nd) accused of the murder of 20-year-old soldier Dave Curnow.

Liam Laing, 21, of Chacewater, Cornwall, and Conner Hammond, 21, of Redruth, Cornwall, spoke only to confirm their names and dates of birth.

They are both charged with murdering Mr Curnow, a member of 4 Rifles who spent six months fighting the Taliban in Afghanistan in 2013.

Both defendants were remanded in custody and will have a bail hearing in front of a judge at Bristol Crown Court via video link tomorrow.

Murder investigation begins after man dies following assault in Redruth

Police have launched a murder enquiry after a 20-year-old man died following an assault in Redruth at the weekend.

The local man was found unconscious on the ground by a member of the public following an assault that happened in the Chapel Street area of the town at around 2.45am on Sunday 20 September.

The victim suffered serious head injuries and was taken by ambulance to the Royal Cornwall Hospital, Treliske, before being transferred to Derriford Hospital, Plymouth.

He died as a result of his injuries earlier today (Monday 21 September).

His family have been informed and are being supported by specially trained officers.

Two 21-year-old men, from Redruth and Truro, were arrested shortly afterwards, on suspicion of assault causing grievous bodily harm and further arrested on suspicion of murder.

They were taken into custody at Camborne police station where they remain.

Officers are carrying out house-to-house enquiries in the area.

Detectives from the Major Crime Investigation Team, who are leading the investigation, are appealing for witnesses to a disturbance outside The Zone nightclub on Church Street to get in touch.

We would like to speak to anyone who witnessed a disturbance outside. The Zone night club and anyone who was in the area between 2.30am and 3.30am on Sunday.

Offences like this are exceedingly rare in this area. We are not looking for anyone else in connection with the incident at this time.

Man arrested in Nottingham over Helston murder

A 54 year old man is being questioned by Devon and Cornwall Police in connection with the death of a Helston man. He was arrested in the Nottingham area on Tuesday night on suspicion of murder.

The body of 72 year old Colin Payne was found at flats in Sanctuary Lane on Sunday and forensic officers are continuing to examine the scene.

Detectives still want to hear from anyone who may have seen Mr Payne between 31 May and 17 June.

A murder investigation is underway after the body of an elderly man was found at an address in Helston. The body's been formally identified as 72-year-old Colin Payne. His family has been informed. Police want to speak to anyone who may have seen Mr Payne since the end of May.

A teenager has appeared at Truro Crown Court charged with the murder of a 91-year-old man from Cornwall. Tom Lang died from multiple fractures in hospital after an incident at his home in Launceston in April.

19 year old Stephen Lang, who is also from Launceston, has been remanded in custody to appear again on 21 September.
