Former England rugby player Matt Dawson has performed the official opening of the new children's unit at North Devon District Hospital in Barnstaple.
Dawson won 77 caps for England and was part of the World Cup winning team in 2003.
He cut the ribbon at the children's unit this morning before touring the ward to speak to patients and give out goody bags.
A new children's unit will officially open at North Devon District Hospital today.
It's the latest phase of a £1 million project. It'll bring together services for women, babies and children which used to be in separate parts of the building.
Managers at North Devon District Hospital have apologised after a swab was left inside a woman for eight days after a procedure at the outpatients clinic. The patient suffered no ill effects and it was removed with surgery.
