Dartmoor Zoo has been forced to close for the day "for the reasons of safety and animal welfare". A spokesman added its "animals will be in their houses for the duration" of the bad weather.
The Environment Agency said there is a risk of localised river flooding across the south west with 13 flood alerts currently in place.
A Flood Warning has been issued by the Environment Agency for the Doniford Stream in the Sampford Mill Farm area. Flooding is expected for Sampford Brett Bridge on the A358 and Sampford Mill Farm in the next few hours with up to 40mm of rainfall forecast.
