There's new hope for islanders on the Scillies after a three and a half million pound investment into its transport links.
The Scillonian passenger ferry is nearing the end of a major refit and a new runway is to be built at Land's End airport which has been closed for most of the past two months due to waterlogged surfaces.
The £2 million investment in the Scillonian III is money well spent – it will ensure she is fit for purpose for the next five years and demonstrates our commitment to investing in our assets and for the support of the community we serve on the Isles of Scilly.”
– Jeff Marston, Chief Executive of the Isles of Scilly Steamship Company
Isles of Scilly passenger ship Scillonian III is set to leave Penzance Dry Dock after a £2 million programme of refurbishments and winter maintenance.
The Scillonian III, which provides a vital link between Penzance and the Isles of Scilly, will leave Dry Dock on Monday (11 February) to undergo sea trials ahead of the 2013 sailing season beginning in March.
As part of a multi-million investment upgrades carried out include new flooring, new lighting, audio visual screens and new catering facilities.
Facilities for disabled passengers have been improved, with a new passenger lift installed that will give wheelchair users direct access to the main deck.
