Devon actor wins Tony Award for Curious Incident

An actor from Devon has won a Tony Award for his performance in the stage version of The Curious Incident of the Dog in the Night-Time.

25-year-old Alex Sharp from Sidmouth scooped the prestigious prize, which honours the best performances on Broadway, for playing the lead role of Christopher in the adaptation of the popular book.

The play also won also won Best Direction and Best Play.

A 65-year-old man has been airlifted to hospital following a serious crash in Sidmouth.

Emergency services were called to Church Street in Sidford on April 16 after a Vauxhall Corsa collided with the pedestrian.

The man sustained serious injuries and was taken by air ambulance to Derriford Hospital. He is in a stable condition.

The driver, a 41-year-old man from Seaton, was uninjured.

Two people have been arrested and one man taken to hospital with serious injuries after a disturbance involving an axe in East Devon.

Police were called to Howarth Close in Sidmouth at around 12:45pm this lunchtime.

Police disarmed a man holding an axe. The police helicopter also attended the incident.

Two elderly people have been injured after a water tank became detached from a tractor.

Emergency services were called to the Sidbury near Sidmouth at around 11:50 this morning. Both casualties have sustained serious injuries to their legs. They were treated at the scene, and the female has been taken to Royal Devon and Exeter Hospital.

Police, fire, ambulance and air ambulance are currently at the scene dealing with the incident. The A375 has been closed at The Hare and Hounds pub and Sidford, and is expected to be closed for several hours.

Special summit to tackle seagulls

A seagull summit has been held in our region to discuss the problem the birds are having in many of our towns and cities.

East Devon District Council organised the event after receiving a number of complaints from the public about seagulls messing up the rubbish, fouling buildings and in some cases being aggressive, particularly to anyone walking along with food in their hands.

Battling the menace of seagulls

A seagull summit has been held to help people and businesses affected by the birds.

In many places seagulls have become an aggressive nuisance - scavenging food and nesting on rooftops.

East Devon District Council organised the event in Sidmouth after complaints from the public about the birds.

Councillor Tom Wright from East Devon District Council says the warmer summer months led to more birds being fed.
