Torbay's Council leader is to review proposals to cut almost £4 million from the Council's budget.
Gordon Oliver made the decision after consulting with a range of groups in the Bay.
£10 million in savings have already been signed off - but another £3,8 million of reductions still have to be made.
Torbay Council is to vote this evening whether to call on Devon & Somerset Fire and Rescue Service to rethink reducing full time cover at Torquay.
There are fears this and other cuts to save the £5.5million required by the Government would put safety at risk.
A motion has been put forward asking the council to get the service to come up with other savings.
It also calls for a complete rethink of the proposals because of lack of consultation with council staff.
