Repairs to a well-known Somerset sculpture are due to be completed on Thursday, 12 October.

The Willow Man, next to the M5, was erected 18 years ago, but the weather has taken its toll on it.

Its creator, Serena de la Hay, has spent the week mending its head and torso.

It was last repaired two years ago, and there are concerns that it might not have a long-term future because of the costs involved.

It's just trying to get round the inevitability that it will need another major repair and then I'd obviously have to look at funding for it.

So, with all these aspects of it, I'm now wondering what the future is of the Willow Man.

Work is due to take place today to repair one of Somerset's most popular landmarks.

The 40-foot high Willow Man went up beside the M5 in 2000, though it had to be rebuilt after a fire the following year.

The artist, Serena de la Hey, will begin mending the statue's leg this morning and will inspect the structure with a view to further repairs next year.
