'Mutilated' pony died through natural causes

Police investigating the discovery of a mutilated pony on Dartmoor in July said it died through natural causes.

There had been reports that the death of the pony could have been linked to satanic cults and ritualistic killing.

Devon and Cornwall Police told ITV News West Country it had consulted experts and had come to the conclusion the injuries were similar to those caused by other wild animals.

The body of a mutilated pony has been found on Dartmoor.

The animal, believed to be around 2 months old, was discovered on moorland at Yennadon Down in Dousland, Yelverton on Tuesday evening.

Police are investigating the possibility that the body had been left in some kind of ritualistic way.

This was a particularly nasty and distressing incident.

Someone will know who is responsible.

This behaviour is bizarre and of concern and I would ask anyone with information concerning the incident to contact the police.

– Inspector Andy Oliver, West Devon Police

Anyone who was in the area of Iron Mine Lane between Sunday and Tuesday evening or who has any information about the incident is asked to call police on 101 quoting log 918 of 23/07/13 or Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111.
