A dramatic rescue unfolded at Chesil Cove at Portland tonight in front of scores of beach-goers after a child got into difficulties in the water. Coastguards say the six-year-old was taken to hospital in Dorchester after being stabalised by paramedics.
Police and coastguards cleared part of the beach to allow the helicopter to land on the sloping beach. There were some hundred people on the beach enjoying the hot sunny evening.
