cafe-ODE in Shaldon has been named the UK’s Sustainable Restaurant of the Year, a year after its sister restaurant ODE-dining won the same award.
Co-owner of the beachside cafe, Tim Bouget, was presented with the prize by the celebrity chef Raymond Blanc at the Sustainable Restaurant Awards in London.
Blanc is President of the Sustainable Restaurant Association (SRA), which rated more than 400 restaurants across the UK to find the country’s most sustainable restaurants. cafe-ODE gained points for the following:
- High levels of recycling
- Use renewable solar electricity
- Sustainable building from recycled materials, including a grass roof designed to attract wildlife
