The European Union has agreed to introduce a blanket ban on fish discards. The practice of throwing edible fish back into the sea to avoid breaking quotas has been widely condemned, not least by the chef Hugh Fearnley-Whittingstall from Devon who led a high-profile campaign against it.
The decision has been welcomed by the Government.
