No compensation for the mother of a Ten Tors victim

The mother of a teenager who drowned on a Ten Tors expedition will not get any compensation. 14 year old Charlotte Shaw died in March 2007 as she struggled to help a friend while crossing a brook on Dartmoor.

Her mother Jennifer Wilkin-Shaw has been fighting for five years for £350,000 compensation from her daughter's private school in Bideford.

A Court of Appeal has ruled that although one of the teachers on the expedition had failed to make it to a checkpoint - due to her negligent map-reading - that had not caused the tragedy.
