High Court battle to sue council fails

A man from Torquay who suffered serious brain injuries after he was attacked by an absconder from a children's home has failed in a multi million pound High Court damages claim against the local authority. 22 year old Bradley Bedford was abducted and assaulted with his girlfriend in 2004.

The two boys who carried out the attack were convicted of causing grevious bodily harm with intent and rape and each given life sentences at Exeter Crown Court in April 2005, with minimum terms of four years and three months.

Today a High Court battle to sue Bedford County Council, which was responsible for the Cheltenham Children's Home in Torbay failed. Mr Bedford's mother who looks after him claimed that the council knew AH was a frequent absconder, and should have kept him tagged so they knew his whereabouts.
