A former Exeter City Council housing officer has appeared in court with four others charged in connection with a conspiracy to commit misconduct in public office over a £720,000 fraud.
Anthony Bodgin of Melbourne Street, Tiverton, faces nine charges of conspiracy to defraud, conspiracy to steal from employer, fraud by abuse of position and theft by employee.
The 63 year old is alleged to have defrauded £400,000 between 2005 and 2011.
- Plymouth couple, Kevin Wingrave, 50, and Lyn McMayon, 56, of Periwinkle Drive, Plymouth. Mr Wingrave faces five charges of conspiracy to steal from an employer and is alleged to have defrauded £200,000.
- Harold McGirl, 63, from Southbourne Road, St Austell, Cornwall, is accused of conspiring to steal from an employer to the tune of £72,000.
- Gary Rawlings, 57, from Langford near Biggleswade in Bedfordshire, faces one charge of conspiracy to steal from an employer - allegedly defrauding £60,000 from taxpayers.
No pleas were entered and all five were bailed.
