Volunteer coastguards at Hope Cove in Devon are being made to choose between which of their rescue services to keep.
The Hope Cove Life Boat and its Cliff rescue team may be split into separate teams by the Maritime & Coastguard Agency.
However those who do volunteer say they do not have the resources to support both.
Sarah Wollaston Totnes MP said: "There's such a long tradition within our community, and it's such a highly valued source. Can I ask the minister please to look at this and to try and break this deadlock?"
