After going two goals down to Leyton Orient, Reuben Reid scored twice to take the game into extra time. After falling behind again, Carl McHugh made it 3-3. But the League One side won 6-5 on sudden death spot-kicks.
Elsewhere, Exeter City lost 2-0 at home to Championship side Bournemouth.
Yeovil Town lost 2-1 at home to League One rivals Gillingham.
And Torquay United have won their first game in the Conference. They beat Welling 3-0 thanks to goals from Ryan Bowman, Courtney Cameron and Toby Ajala.
