Football League Fixtures for 2016/17 season released

The Football League fixtures for the upcoming 2016/17 season have been released. Bristol City open their campaign at Ashton Gate against newly promoted Wigan at what could potentially be a sell-out crowd and the newly renovated stadium.

City's competitiveness will certainly be tested in the opening month of the new season. After Wigan they travel to another newly promoted side - Burton before a run of three matches against the sides relegates from the Premier League.

First Lee Johnson's side travel to Norwich and then City's young manager will have the chance to test managerial skills against one of Europe's most successful managers Rafael Benitez. City face Newcastle at Ashton Gate on August 20th.

The month ends with another big game at Ashton Gate - Aston Villa are the visitors on August 27th.

Elsewhere, Bristol Rovers travel to Scunthorpe on their return to League One and will first play rivals Swindon at the County Ground on August 27th.

Swindon's first match of the season sees them play Coventry at home, while in League Two, newly promoted Cheltenham face Leyton Orient at home and Yeovil welcome Notts County to Huish Park.
