West Paralympians compete on the first day of Rio

Wiltshire teenager Polly Maton has finished in seventh in the women's T47 long jump final.

The 16-year-old, from Urchfont, was a surprise selection for Paralympics GB and jumped a best distance of 5.10m on her debut at the Paralympic Games.

Meanwhile Bath-based swimming Aaron Moores failed to qualify for the final of S14 100m backstroke.

The silver medallist in the event at London 2012 was tipped as a medal chance, but finished fifth in his heat.

The 22-year-old will now turn his attention to the breaststroke - something he has been training hard for.
