Man suffers life-threatening injuries after major flat fire

The fire spread through three flats and into the roof

A man has been left with life-threatening injuries after a major fire in Torquay overnight.

Up to 40 firefighters tackled the blaze in three flats on Fore Street when flames were seen bursting out the first floor window at around 10pm.

A man was taken to Torbay District Hospital with life-threatening injuries, and was later transferred to Swansea Hospital.

No further injuries have been reported and 12 residents have been re-housed by Torbay council.

Police say there is likely to be traffic disruption due to road closure at Fore Street whilst the fire service investigate the incident.
