Police in Weymouth are investigating an assault in the town centre.

Officers say a Weymouth man in his 40s was assaulted on Saturday night by an unknown man outside of the Nautico Lounge in St Thomas Street.

It is believed he was struck by his own crutches.

The victim suffered serious head and back injuries and is currently in a life-threatening condition in hospital.

The suspect, who was captured on town centre CCTV, is described as a white man with short hair and was wearing a dark coloured T-shirt, blue shorts and light coloured trainers.

Detective Sergeant Mark Portelli, of Weymouth CID says police are seeking witnesses.

We have also not recovered the victim’s crutches and I would urge anyone who might have information as to where these might be to contact us.
