ITV1 presents a brand new adventure show, set amongst the icy glaciers and snowy landscape of Norway. ‘71 Degrees North’ mixes spectacular experiences and pure danger, with sheer entertainment and breathtaking scenery.

Culminating inside the Arctic Circle, this eight-part adventure series stars 10 celebrities, fighting their way to the most northern part of mainland Europe. Along the way, tempers will rise and temperatures will plummet. Getting there will require every ounce of strength they have.

Hosted by KATE THORNTON and GETHIN JONES, the programme sees 10 celebrities take on the adventure of a lifetime. Those taking up the challenge are: JOE ABSOLOM, SUSIE AMY, ANDREW CASTLE, DIARMUID GAVIN, GAVIN HENSON, KONNIE HUQ, MICHELLE MONE, MARCUS PATRICK, SHANE RICHIE AND LAUREN SOCHA.

Each week, the celebrities will be split into two teams and given strict instructions for a terrifying challenge. The two team leaders must select their teams in school playground fashion and no one wants to be picked last!

The challenges will test the teams to the limit and see them bonding for survival. They include; mountain trekking, reindeer herding, snow cave building, a ravine crossing, sleeping in tents attached to the sheer vertical drop of a cliff face and crossing vast expanses of snowy landscape on dog sleigh. Each week, the team who win the challenge will be rewarded with a luxury night in a log cabin. The losers will spend yet another night out in sub-zero temperatures, in a freezing tent, on basic rations.

Next is the immunity challenge, where the celebrities can win immunity from that week’s elimination. The challenges will test their physical and mental limits and include; swimming in an icy fiord, climbing a frozen waterfall, scaling a giant dam and reindeer racing.

And finally, the celebrities will need to cast their votes and decide who they think should be leaving that week. One by one, the celebrities with the most votes must leave the group and return to the UK.

Along the way, friendships will form and adventures will be had but ultimately, the celebrities are battling it out for themselves. Viewers will get to know some of Britain’s best loved stars, see how they deal with the immense pressure of arctic conditions and watch them embark on the experience of a lifetime.

After an exhilarating journey by snow mobile across a vast frozen lake, the 10 celebrities arrive in the mountains of central Norway. They are met by presenters Kate Thornton and Gethin Jones who inform them they will need to pick two team leaders before they take on their first challenge.

Andrew Castle leads the blue team and picks Welsh rugby international Gavin Henson, Footballers’ Wives actor Susie Amy, Misfits actor Lauren Socha and TV gardener Diarmuid Gavin. Shane Richie leads the reds and picks TV presenter Konnie Huq, Hollyoaks actor Marcus Patrick, Doc Martin actor Joe Absolom and lingerie tycoon Michelle Mone.

The first stage of the expedition is a dog sled race, where the celebrities race across 30km of snowy landscape to an overnight camp, picking up supplies along the way. They will spend the night under canvas and will race to the finish line of the first stage, the following morning.

In an action-packed first day, the celebrities suffer multiple crashes during their many hours on the dog sleds and are exhausted as the sunlight starts to fade. The losing team then struggles to set up camp in the high winds and find the sub-zero temperatures punishing.

The next morning, both teams race against the clock to the finish line. But who was quickest?

Kate and Gethin meet the teams at the finish line to reveal their times and the winning team celebrates, despite only clinching their victory by a few seconds. They will get a night in a warm log cabin with a meal prepared for them. The losing team must trek to a nearby camp, where they will put up their tent again and spend another night in the cold. Throughout the expedition, the only way to get respite from the cold will be to win a team challenge.

The next morning the celebrities regroup for the first immunity challenge where they get a chance to guarantee their place on the next stage of the expedition. This week they must swim as far as they can in the icy waters of a fiord. The temperate is barely above freezing and rocks of ice float on the surface. As there is a risk of hypothermia, hypoventilation and cardiac arrest, the celebrities are only permitted in the water for a maximum of 4 minutes and a team of medics are on standby.

When the results are finally in, the winning celebrity celebrates their impressive result.

But it’s time for someone to leave the camp and everyone must cast a vote. Whoever gets the most votes will leave for home immediately after the result. Kate and Gethin reveal that the person leaving this week has been voted off by a landslide. The loser just has time for a quick goodbye before they leave for the airport. The group is down to nine and the next team challenge awaits them.
