Great Night Out

Published: Mon 24 Dec 2012

Great Night Out is a brand new 6 x 60 minute post-watershed comedy drama series for ITV1 filmed on location in London and Stockport and due to air from early 2013.
Each week we follow our four mid-thirties mates as they enjoy a weekly boys' get-together in Stockport. As they help each other through romantic, work and family crises, they invariably create much bigger problems to solve.
Hodge (Lee Boardman) sees himself as the leader of the group – but no-one else does. In reality he side-steps responsibility - and spending money. His wife Kath (Rebekah Staton) most certainly wears the trousers at home; Beggsy (Will Ash) is an upbeat soul, divorced for a year but still pining after his ex-wife who has fled down under with her new hubby taking their daughter Kelly with her. Glyn (Craig Parkinson) is everyone's loyal underdog who still yearns after his high school crush Julie (Christine Bottomley) and seems to fluff every attempt to get together with her despite his mates' well-intentioned 'advice'; Daz (Stephen Walters) is the eternal pessimist of the group, the first to pull Hodge up on his sometimes questionable fashion sense and the first to put a dampener on a situation. Sometimes he's in a relationship with Colleen, sometimes not. Their constant bickering seems to be the only glue holding them together, but underneath there's a real love.
Great Night Out charts the lads' attempts to right their worldly wrongs – so long as they don't have to move too far from their local, the footie or greasy spoon to do so.
The series was written and created by Mark Bussell and Justin Sbresni (The Worst Week Of My Life) with Jonathan Harvey (Beautiful People, Gimme, Gimme, Gimme, Coronation Street) and Steve Turner (Jeopardy, Tracy Beaker Returns).
Great Night Out stars Will Ash (Waterloo Road, Lapland, Conviction), Stephen Walters (Mean Machine, 51st State, Buried), Craig Parkinson (Misfits, Brighton Rock, Line Of Duty), Lee Boardman (Rome, Death In Paradise, London Boulevard, Longford), Naomi Bentley (White Van Man, Love Life, Mutual Friends, Vera), Rebekah Staton (Spy, Pulling, Inside Men, Wallander), Christine Bottomley (Early Doors, Lost Christmas), Susie Blake (Mrs Brown's Boys, Wild at Heart, Coronation Street) and Ricky Tomlinson (The Royle Family, Cracker, Brookside).
Guest stars include Isy Suttie (Peep Show), Jessica Gunning (White Heat), Keith Allen (Bodies) and Paul Nicholls (Holby City, EastEnders).
The Producers are Pat Lees (Outnumbered, Case Sensitive) and Angela Sinden, the Directors are Elliot Hegarty (Roman's Empire, Star Stories, Kevin Bishop Show, Moving Wallpaper) and Iain B MacDonald (White Van Man, Mansfield Park, The Last Enemy, Bodies). The Executive Producers are Mark Bussell, Justin Sbresni, Jimmy Mulville and Paul Schlesinger for Hat Trick Productions. Great Night Out was commissioned by ITV Director of Comedy and Entertainment Elaine Bedell.
