ITV and The British Comedy Awards Announce This Year's Nominations

18/11/2009

Hosted by Jonathan Ross and celebrating its 20th year, Britain’s best-loved comedy awards ceremony enjoys a renowned reputation for providing riotous and unpredictable viewing in the presence of an international array of the biggest names in entertainment, showcasing some of the most outrageous, successful and hilarious comedy moments of the year. The 2009 British Comedy Awards will be broadcast on ITV1 and ITV2 on Saturday 12th December.

Jonathan says ‘I’m delighted – it’s the most prestigious awards show in the world. Obama may have a Nobel Prize. But he’s not even in the running for Best Entertainment personality. It’s that prestigious.’

Last year’s winners included Alan Carr for Best Comedy Entertainment Personality, Harry Hill’s TV Burp for Best Comedy Entertainment Programme, Gavin and Stacey for Best TV Comedy, Ricky Gervais for Best TV Comedy Actor and Sharon Horgan for Best TV Comedy Actress.

This year Michael McIntyre and Alan Carr prove their popularity with three nominations each including going head to head alongside Harry Hill in both the Best Comedy Entertainment Personality and Entertainment Programme categories.

Last year’s winner of Best Male Comedy Newcomer Simon Bird is now catapulted into a nomination for Best Television Comedy Actor squaring up to Robert Webb and Rob Brydon. And the youngsters are chasing on the ‘veterans’ tails with all three children actors of Outnumbered securing themselves nominations in the newcomer categories and Outnumbered itself being voted for in five categories. Harry Enfield and Paul Whitehouse earn a nomination for the second series of their sketch show and last year’s Comedy Panel show winners QI will battle it out with Have I Got News For You and newcomers to this year’s competition Mock The Week.

Today we are delighted to reveal the full list of this year’s coveted comics nominated for The British Comedy Awards 2009:
