Geordie favourites Ant & Dec stole the show tonight at this year’s 17th National Television Awards, scooping two awards at TV’s biggest night of the year.  Ant and Dec joined some of the biggest names in showbiz to walk the red carpet at London’s O2 Arena. Voted for by the public and hosted by Dermot O’Leary, the glittering ceremony aired LIVE in peak time on ITV1.

Viewers were treated to a show-stopping opening performance with the BBC’s Bruce Forsyth and ITV’s Ant and Dec joining forces for a surprise rendition of Nat King Cole’s ‘Let There Be Love’ - Ant and Dec’s first singing performance in 10 years.  There was also a live performance from The X Factor winners, Little Mix, who sung 'Don't Let Go' live on TV for the first time since winning the talent show.

The show also saw the likes of Elle Macpherson, Hilary Devey, James Corden and even Kermit the Frog grace the stage, to celebrate the very best in TV.  Those honoured with a coveted NTA trophy included Outnumbered for Situation Comedy, Matt Smith for Male Drama Performance and Karen Gillan for female.  The controversial award for Talent Show was presented to The X Factor, beating off competition from Britain’s Got Talent, Dancing on Ice, and Strictly Come Dancing.

The Special Recognition Award went to Jonathan Ross, rewarding him for his TV career, which has spanned 25 years. Gary Barlow was also honoured with an Outstanding Contribution Award and David Walliams was given the Landmark award.  The final award of the night was given to Coronation Street, for the sought after title of Serial Drama, which was voted for live throughout the show.
