In this, the penultimate film in The South Bank Show Revisited season, Melvyn Bragg meets up with the multi talented Victoria Wood.

In a career already spanning over 30 years, Victoria Wood has become one of this country’s most acclaimed comedy writers and performers.

Now nearly 15 years since she was first featured on The South Bank Show, this is the third film on the diverse comedian, actress, singer and writer. Victoria Wood speaks to Melvyn Bragg about a career that began in the 70s and has grown to take in award-winning sketch comedy, sell-out stand-up tours, musicals and television drama.

Victoria Wood was last profiled by The South Bank Show in 2007 when she had just written, produced and starred in her first ‘straight’ television drama, the highly acclaimed Housewife 49. It won her two BAFTAs and, among her many existing accolades, established her as serious television drama writer.

Now, on the eve of her announcement of two new dramas, including one based around the early career of Morcambe and Wise (playing Morcambe’s mother), Victoria Wood talks honestly and humorously to Melvyn Bragg about her life – and a career that began with a 3-minute slot on New Faces.

The final film in The South Bank Show Revisited season is the film on Arts film making to include interviews with Ken Russell and Tony Palmer. The South Bank Show Revisited – a final season to cherish.

Presented and edited by Melvyn Bragg
