Fourth choice All Blacks number 10 Stephen Donald said it was "a dream" after coming off the bench to kick the winning penalty for his country in the World Cup Final.

Donald was called upon after an injury to Aaron Cruden, who himself only stepped into the breach after New Zealand lost Dan Carter and Colin Slade earlier in the tournament.

And Donald answered the call in the most emphatic fashion, kicking the penalty which sealed an 8-7 win for the All Blacks in Auckland.

"It's hard to believe," Donald told ITV's Martin Bayfield. "I was number four choice, down the pecking order but I thought I'd stick around and see what happened.

"It's a dream!" he added.
