Stephen Jones' Rugby World Cup career could be over after he was left out Wales' 22 for their quarter-final against Ireland on Saturday.
The omission of the 102-cap veteran for the younger James Hook in the 22 highlights the seven changes made by Wales coach Warren Gatland as they seek to repeat their 1987 efforts in advancing to the semi-finals.
Rhys Priestland gets the nod for fly half in front of Jones and Hook.
It is a devastating blow for the Wales fly half and one-time captain, who follows South Africa injury victim Bakkies Botha as surprising absentees from their World Cup quarter-final teams to play this weekend.
In other changes to the side, lock Luke Charteris switches from the No.5 to No.4 jersey, where he will partner Alun Wyn Jones in the second row. Bradley Jones takes the spot on the reserves bench.
Flanker Ryan Jones is also benched for the match, with Danny Lydiate promoted to openside flanker despite not featuring in the side that hammered Fiji 66-0 on Sunday.
The heavily experienced front row combination of Gethin Jenkins, Huw Bennett and Adam Jones - all three are playing in their third World Cup and have a massive 197 caps between them - return for the crunch match against their Celtic foes.
Shane Williams is elevated into the starting left winger's position, with Leigh Halfpenny moving to fullback at the expense of Lee Byrne.
Another Williams - Scott - has been dropped to the bench to allow Jonathan Davies back as the starting centre.
The outstanding Toby Faletau and Jamie Roberts continue to hold on to the No.8 and inside centre positions respectively, while captain Sam Warburton continues in the role he has made his own.
The two nations clash at the Wellington Regional Stadium on Saturday at 6pm.
