Venue guide: Wellington Regional Stadium
With a capacity of 40,000, Wellington Regional Stadium is one of the key venues for the 2011 Rugby World Cup.
It was opened in January 2000, almost a decade after Wellington Rugby opted to redevelop the old Athletic Park.
It has hosted many high-profile sporting events, including rugby and cricket internationals, and pop concerts.
WRS, also known as the ‘cake tin’ for its circular, silver design, will see a lot of action in the tournament, as it’s hosting eight matches including a couple of quarter-finals.
