This traditional British dish makes a tasty little snack, spread onto bread or crackers. Brown shrimps are set in nutmeg-flavoured butter in a small dish.
200g Morecambe Bay brown shrimps
100g butter, softened
Pinch ground mace
Pinch cayenne pepper
1 tsp paprika
1 lemon, juice and zest of
1 tsp Gentleman’s Relish
Toast to serve
Melt the butter in a small saucepan over a low heat and add the cayenne
pepper and nutmeg. Add the shrimps, Gentlemen’s Relish, lemon juice and
zest to the pan, stir to warm through and season.
Using a large slotted spoon, remove the prawns and press them into your
ramekins (or serving dish). Pour the leftover butter in the saucepan over
the shrimps to cover them. Return to the fridge to set.
