Tony raced to Maria and cried, a note of panic in his voice: "What's happening? Is it coming?" Her face contorted with pain, she cried: "It was a contraction. I've had a few twinges while we've been walking but nothing like this!" He asked why on earth she hadn't told him earlier and she gasped: "I thought it was just more Braxton Hicks. I didn't know I was starting!" He helped her to her feet and told her urgently: "Come on, let's get you back to the car. The weather's turning."

As she gasped out in pain with another contraction, he assured her that once they got to the car he would get her to the hospital in no time but she grimaced: "That wasn't long since the last one. Tony I don't think I will be able to make it all that way back to the car park!" He told her that was no problem and pulled out his phone to call an ambulance but then let out a cry of anguish: "No! There's no signal!" What the hell were they going to do now?

Connie told Molly they were trying to think of something to do and Molly asked: "Is there nothing good on at the pictures?" only for Jack to grunt: "Not for about thirty years now." then joke: "I took our Vera to see The Creature From The Black Lagoon. Folk were stopping her for autographs on the way out. Hey, what about the dogs?" Molly told them she thought that was a great idea and that she and Ty would come with them. Connie told her that would be lovely but wasn't sure that Ty would think so. Molly assured her: "He'll be fine. It'll give him a chance to build some bridges." but, as they left, one couldn't help feel that she had no intention of going with them.

Tony told Maria he would have to go for help but she begged him not to leave her. He promised that he wouldn't leave her for a second but cried: "We have to get you off this beach. The tide's coming in and unless you've changed your mind about a water birth you are going to have to sit back and enjoy the ride." He swept her up in his arms and told her that the second she felt another contraction she was to let him know and he'd stop. So, with Maria in his arms and Ozzy leading the way, he set off away from the beach at a pace.

Given the cold shoulder and pouting furiously treatment by Becky, Steve sighed and told her: "Look, I'll make more effort with Snail." She cried: "It's Slug, I mean Neil! You as good as said you didn't trust me!" As she went to go into the back he caught hold of her top and pulled her back then told her: "If I didn't trust you I wouldn't want to book another wedding would I?" She listened as he told her he wanted to phone the registry office today and get a date then screamed to the pub at large: "I'm gonna be a summer bride folks!" and threw herself into his arms.

As Tony carried Maria through the dunes they almost literally stumbled across an old shack. Maria's contractions were getting perilously close now and it was obvious to both of them that they were not going to be able to make it back to the car. Sweating and panting, Tony lowered her to her feet and gasped: "Did you ever see that movie Ice Cold In Alex? Boy I could murder a cold beer right now!"

Maria cried out in pain as another contraction came and, as she leant against the shack wall, he pulled out his phone again and cried in astonishment: "I've got one bar!" He dialled 999 and cried: "Ambulance please. My friend's gone into labour and the contractions are only a few minutes apart. Ainsdale Beach, quite far up, the north end I think. We're by some old shack in the dunes!" As Maria cried out in pain again he begged: "Can you get the ambulance here as quickly as possible please? What? I'm no doctor. I've been to a few ante natal lessons but that's about it." Maria asked what was happening and he told her: "They are going to stay on the line in case something happens. Let's get you inside."

On their first prison visit, Anna and Eddie found Gary full of remorse as he told them they had done nothing to deserve this. Anna told him they did nothing to stop it: "If I'd have been a bit harder?" Gary asked: "What? This hard? No, this is what it's taken for me to realise. Playing the big man is for mugs. Look where it got me. Look where it got our Len." Anna told him he had no idea how glad she was to hear him say that and that he would be out soon and could get a decent job and make a fresh start. He nodded: "I'll try but I can't see people tripping over themselves to give a job to a jailbird, can you?"

Tina went to thank Jason for the flowers and smiled: "Hey, Mr Romantic. I don't surprise easily but I have to say I am very impressed." She was surprised though as he frowned and asked what she was talking about. She smiled: "The roses. They were lovely." but seeing his face then asked: "You didn't send them did you?" He asked what was going on and she sighed: "David. I might have known! And he was there right on cue to see me get them. When is he going to get the flaming message?"

Inside the shack, laid on Tony's coat with an old tyre for back support, Maria was beginning to panic while Tony tried to encourage her and take instructions from the operator on the phone. As she sobbed with the pain, he tried to reassure her that the paramedics would give her something for it just as soon as they got there but she cried: "But where are they? I can't wait any longer!" then let out a blood curdling scream that echoed over the sand dunes outside.

As she gripped his hand, she let out another scream and cried: "I can't do this any more!" He told her, trying his best to control the rising panic in his voice: "Yes you can. You're the bravest person I know. You've survived worse than this. Come on, keep going!"

He winced as she relaxed her grip on his hand but she was in such a state she had no idea that she'd actually drawn blood. She sobbed again that she couldn't go on but he cried: "Yes you can. You have to, Come on, breathe." He panted himself to get her to pant along with him and told her encouragingly: "Come on. You can do it. Do it for the baby. Do it for Liam's baby! Do it for Liam!" and once again her cries of agony swept out towards the sea.

Molly told Ty about going to the dogs but he scowled: "Why would I want to go to the dogs with her?" She asked Kevin what he thought and he shrugged that it would give him a chance to get to know the woman. Ty carped that he didn't give a monkey's about her but conceded: " The dogs are always good fun though and if you and Jack are going to be there. Yeah, go on then." He asked if she wanted a brew while she was there but she told him she couldn't stop and he went off inside to make one for him and Kevin.

As soon as Tyrone was out of earshot she whispered to Kevin: "I'll get out of it tonight and call you when the coast is clear."

Things were accelerating wildly in the shack and, sensing the moment was at hand, Tony told Maria: "Listen to what you body is telling you. When the next one comes, bear down. We're nearly there." She let out an ear splitting scream as she did so and he cried: "Oh my! I can see him! I can see the head. Oh, you might have prepared me for that. Okay, I think we're there. One more push, one more push!" As the next contraction swept over her with the urge to push, Tony cried: "Yes, it's coming, it's coming!" and quickly took of his t-shirt.

Two seconds later, Baby Connor found himself delivered into the world by the very man who had murdered his father. Tony was every bit as emotional as Maria as he placed the tiny bundle into her arms and kissed her gently on the forehead. Faintly, in the distance, the sound of a siren could be heard.

A short while later, in the ambulance, Maria thanked Tony and told him didn't think she'd be able to do it. He smiled: "I knew you could. I just wish you'd had someone better there to help you." She told him there was no-one she'd have wanted more and he smiled: "Well as seaside souvenirs go he sure beats a stick of rock." The paramedic told her they were ready to go and she asked if Tony could come in the ambulance. He smiled: "It's fine but you'll have to lose the dog mate."

The lady Maria had spoken to earlier told him she would mind him for them. He told her that was really kind and that he'd collect him as soon as possible. She assured him: "It's no problem. I've got a big garden and my Max loves company." As she gave him her number she told him he'd done a wonderful job: "I was a bit worried when I heard the sirens. I'd spoken to your wife earlier." Tony began: "Oh we're not..." He looked into the ambulance and back again then, not realising that Maria had done exactly the same thing earlier, continued: "We're not going to forget today in a hurry."

He climbed inside the ambulance and, as she looked happily at her new son, kissed Maria on the head. The pair of them clearly as elated as each other after their experience.

Becky was on cloud nine as she enthused to Steve: "All the best people get married in the summer you know. Princess Di got married in the summer." He joked that was a great omen but his smile quickly disappeared as he saw who had just walked in through the pub door. It was Slug but he told Becky quietly: "Watch this. I shall be charm personified!"

He asked: "Lager is it?" but Slug replied that he'd have an orange juice and lemonade. Steve replied: "So on the straight and narrow now is it?" and he replied: 'Something like that?" then looked straight past him and half smiled, half smirked: "Alright Becks?" Steve kept his cool and asked: "So, you and my fiancée go back a long way then?" but Slug replied: "Oh yes. All the way!"

Steve muttered that he was probably glad it was all behind him now but Slug answered, with a smile at Becky: "Some of it. But we had some good times, some of the stuff we did. She was a whirlwind back then. It's almost a shame to see her bottled up." Steve almost snapped: "She's not..." but then continued: "People change." Slug muttered not always for the better but Steve smirked back: "Oh I don't know. You were a slug. Anyway, on the house." He told Becky he was just going to pick Amy up but as soon as he was out of the door she sidled across the bar with a smile towards her former boyfriend.

Emily told Ramsey and Norris that she was very low on volunteers fort the next church social and Norris sniped: "I'm not surprised. The last one was as much fun as an ingrowing toenail." She countered: "Well don't worry, I won't be asking you again!" Ramsey immediately smiled: "Then consider me at your service. I run a mean tombola!" Emily looked absolutely delighted and told him he was an absolute godsend as Norris smiled sarcastically at her.

At the gym, Sean was showing little interest in exercising and more in moaning about his love life, or rather, the lack of it. Jason assured him it was just a matter of time but he wailed: "You should try being in these shoes, not that I've seen them in ages." However, his interest suddenly as a good looking lad walked in and looked over at him. Gaydar in overdrive, Sean practically threw himself onto the weights machine Jason had just been using.

Of course, being a possible contender for this years' Mr Punyverse title, he could only manage a mere handful of repetitions before leaping off the machine. As the lad smiled in amusement, Sean blustered in as manly a manner as he could manage, which was somewhere between Larry Grayson and Dame Evadne Hinge: "Ooh, you can really feel the burn, can't you?" as his admirer chuckled to himself.

As expected, when it came time to go to the dog track, Molly had suddenly developed a banging headache. Ty told Jack and Connie to go on their own but Milly insisted: "No you go. I don't want to ruin your night. I'll probably just take a couple of paracetemol and go to kip. It'll do you good to go out and have a laugh with Jack and Connie."

No sooner was the front door closed then out came the mobile phone and there were no prizes for guessing who she was texting.

Unfortunately for the recipient of her text, no sooner had he received it and come skipping down the stairs looking like man at C&A, his hopes of an evening of illicit passion were dashed as he found Sally, Sophie and Ben walking in. Sophie told him excitedly that Ben had won his race and was through to the regional finals and Sally beamed: "And Ben's parents are coming for a pizza with us as well so we thought you should be there too! I was going to say put your best shirt on. Are you planning a big night out?" Kev looked down at his shirt, unbuttoned halfway down his chest, and mumbled: "Just The Rovers."

Slug asked Becky how she landed herself with Steve. She smiled: "Oh don't you worry, I'm working on his beer belly." He replied: "No I mean with a kid and the mum inside for murder." She mused: "To be honest it makes it easier if anything and our Amy is a proper belter. Nope, I've landed on my feet this time and I ain't going to blow it." He told her he was pleased for her but as she went off to serve someone, his narrowed eyes told a quite different story.

As Maria sat in bed cuddling the baby, Tony got ready to take her picture. She groaned: "I don't know about having my picture taken. I must look a right sight.' He smiled: "Not from where I'm standing." She asked why he didn't get in the picture too: "Can you put the camera on delay?"

He replied: "Sure, if that's what you want." but was suddenly silent as he fiddled with the camera's controls and found himself looking at a picture of Carla on their wedding day. He looked at it for a moment then hit the delete option, wiping from the camera's memory as well as his own.

Moments later, the camera was set up and the first picture of baby, mother and murderer of the father was taken.

Kevin's mind was miles away as Sally looked at herself in the mirror and sighed: "Look at the lines round my eyes. I look like a board table on a snowy morning. I'm forty two next week and look every day of it." With a husband's uncanny ability to say exactly the wrong thing he mumbled absently "Yep." She snapped: "Well thanks very much. You're no Peter Pan yourself. You look more like your dad every day, especially with your buttons undone. Put it away, nobody wants to see that. You'll put Mrs Richardson off her pizza!" He whined: "Do I have to come? I'm tired, I'm not hungry and I'm not in the mood for small talk." but was told: "You were awake enough for The Rovers. If you don't want to eat, fine, but I want you at that restaurant!"

Meanwhile, over at No 7 Coronation Street there was no sign of a couple of paracetemols but there was certainly a sign of a couple of wine glasses as Molly placed a bottle of wine beside them then put some quietly romantic music on the stereo.
