Sally received a pair of diamond earrings from Rosie for her birthday and thanked her for them. As nauseating as ever, Rosie simpered: 'I won't tell you how much they cost but it was hundreds more than that pathetic little cross Sophie gave you.' Sophie was visibly upset and Sally told Rosie that it was the thought behind the gift that counted but Rosie sneered at Sophie: 'More like how little can I get away with.' Sophie bridled: 'Or how can I use my mum's birthday to show off.' Kevin told them to knock it off and they headed off for school and work respectively.

Kev seized his chance and told Sal: 'Talking of birthday parties, I've been invited to one on Saturday, in Bristol. Lad I went to school with, Jimmy Woods. I know you don't know him. I think he's trying to turn it into some sort of reunion.' She asked if he was going to go and he sighed theatrically: 'I don't know. Bristol's a bit far isn't it? Though he said he can put me up.' He was delighted as she told him he should go if he wanted to but told her casually: 'I dunno. I'll think about it.'

His partner in crime was also laying the groundwork for the weekend as she told Tyrone she was thinking of going to see her dad and might stop over. Ty cried: 'You don't want me to go do you?' She replied: 'No, I know you'd only get bored. But I don't want you ringing me every five minutes asking how I am.' He asked when he'd ever done that and she pointed out he did every time she was away. He pouted: 'Right then, don't you worry. You won't hear from me.' and headed off to work.

Fiz told Chesney she wanted to talk to him but he cried: 'About Stape? I don't even want to hear his name!' She sighed: 'But by being like that you are making me keep secrets from you.' His eyes narrowed and he asked what kind of secrets. She began: 'Well, I'm going to...' but her nerve failed her and she blurted: 'I'm going to visit him this afternoon.' Even that was bad enough for Chesney and he yelled: 'It's not him that wants locking up, it's you!' and stamped out of the house for school.

Kevin made a phone call and asked: 'Reservations please?' He almost jumped out of his skin as Ty appeared behind him and asked why he hadn't made him a cuppa. As Ty went off to make himself one, Kevin whispered: 'I'd like to book a room for Saturday night please. Just the one night. And if you've got any of those Executive rooms I'd like one of those.' He listened: then replied 'Oh okay, we'll take that then but if you do get a better room come available? Great. Right, credit card?'

Tony told Maria he was moving back to his flat before Helen and Barry arrived. She wailed: 'How will I manage without you? If it wasn't for you taking him off me I'd never even get a wash. Look at the state of me as it is!' Tony assured her Helen and Barry would be pitching in and doing everything he did but she cried: 'I'd feel like I was hiding something. You've been as good as living here and I'm not ashamed of that.' He sighed: 'Right, I'll compromise. I'll stay till they get here but I'm not staying the night. I'm going back to the flat.'

Jason and Tina racked their brains trying to come up with a way of getting a deposit together. He asked: 'Maybe we could borrow it? What about Rita?' She sighed: 'Well if Rita's loaded it's because she doesn't lend it to people like us. I wouldn't if I was her and if I wouldn't lend it to us nobody will.' They froze as the corner shop door opened and David walked out. Jason gulped: 'Alright Dave?' and received a mumbled: 'Yeah, fine.' in response.

As David headed back towards the salon, Tina muttered: 'He still wants to kill me. You an'all.' As he walked her back to The Kabin, Jason assured her: 'It was just seeing us together sent him a bit mental. He'll get used to it. He'll have to.' but as David reached the other end of the street he stopped and turned round...

Inside, he raged: 'The evil cow! I mean, what has she got to stand on the street like that for so everyone can see? Especially me. Like I need to see that! She's only doing it cos she enjoys seeing how it gets me all wound up.' Natasha asked with a sigh: 'Tina?' He seethed: 'Well let her cos whatever it leads to will be all her fault won't it?' Diatribe over, Natasha asked calmly: 'Did you get any biscuits?' only for him to snap: 'No. I forgot!'

As David flounced angrily into the back, the salon door opened and Tony appeared. He smiled ingratiatingly: 'Ah, Natasha.' She responded with a decidedly frosty: 'Oh, hello.' and he asked hesitantly: 'Can I ask you a really big favour?'

Seeing Sally climbing out of Rosie's car, Theresa sniped: 'Get that out of a cornflake packet?' Sally replied: 'No we did not. It's my daughter's actually.' She retorted: 'And where did she get it? Some grateful sugar daddy/?' Sally snorted: 'I'm sorry. I don't have time to stand here and gossip.' and, nose in the air, marched inside. However, Bill was only too happy to tell her all about Fiz, John, the kidnap and how he gave Rosie a hundred and fifty grand. She sighed enviously: 'Some folk have all the luck don't they? The only thing any fella has given me has been a pack of lies.'

Natasha arrived at the house and Tony explained: 'You were saying about how you looked before Helen and Barry arrive so I thought who's the best beautician in the North West?' Maria gushed: 'I don't deserve you.' and told Natasha: 'He's helped me out with Liam so much, even getting up to him in the night when he's as tired as I am yet he still finds time to do something as lovely as this.' Tony simpered: 'Well you must have cast a spell over me cos I'm not normally this nice am I Natasha?' and Natasha replied, through tightly gritted teeth: 'No.'

As Umed and Dev moved their bickering about shop stock into the back room, 'Kevin whispered to Molly: 'I've booked us a room for Saturday night.' She gasped then replied quietly: 'Blimey, you move fast when you want to, don't you?' and he smiled back: 'Yeah, and I want to!'

Theresa bumped into Fiz and told her: 'I hear it's your boyfriend paid for this.' Fiz replied: 'Well in a roundabout way, yes.' and Theresa mused: 'That must make you sick, all that money that should have been his and yours being given away. I'd take a hammer to it if it was me.' Fiz laughed: 'Don't think I haven't been tempted.' Umed happened along and Theresa told her: 'Well have a go now. We won't say owt, will we?' Fiz laughed: 'Well there's times I could have but I don't have a hammer with me.'

Theresa cried: 'Then hit it with something else. Go on, you'll feel better for it.' Rolling up her magazine, Fiz grinned: 'Alright, just once.' and then set about battering the defenceless automobile with it as Theresa cheered her on. Unfortunately for Fiz, Chesney had been aimlessly kicking a ball about by the medical centre and, seeing her, rushed to the Webster's door and hammered on it crying: 'Someone's trying to damage your car!'

Rosie and co came steaming out and Chesney cried accusingly: 'She was trying to dent your car.' Fiz cried that she was not and Rosie screeched: 'You better not have or I'll call the police and you can go to prison with your boyfriend.' Theresa and Umed both backed Fiz up that it was just a joke but Rosie squawked: 'I think there's a scratch.' while looking nowhere near where Fiz had struck it. Fiz yelled at Chesney: 'See what you've done?' but he merely scowled at her: 'Yeah, and I'd do it again!'

A little later, Kevin was anxious to secure his night away and asked Sally: 'So, do you think I should go to this party in Bristol then?' Preoccupied with getting things ready for the party, she asked absently: 'What party in Bristol? then continued issuing orders to Sophie. He replied: 'I told you, that lad I went to school with, Jimmy Woods.' but she screeched: 'Have you started drinking already?' He muttered that somebody had to be first and she scowled: 'I might have known it would be you!'

Conversation was halted as Rosie swanned in wearing a top so small that it appeared to have been swiped from Amy Barlow's wardrobe. Kevin tried again, telling Sally: 'It's a guy I want to school with it. It's his fortieth tomorrow. I think he's trying to get us all back together.' The doorbell rang and Sally cried: 'Oh no, we're not even ready yet!' Sophie told them she'd get it and went off to answer it.

Kevin hadn't given up and mused loudly: 'I suppose Bristol isn't that far is it? Not if I stop over. No, I think you're right. I should go.' Sally frowned: 'You think I'm right?' and Kevin cried: 'Well that's what you said before.' but she'd already lost interest and told him: 'If that's Sophie's friends make sure they don't eat all the food!' He asked how he was supposed to do that and she cried: 'I don't know. Hide some of the food. Put some of it in the washing machine!'

It was Ben, Ryan and Sian and they presented Sally with a box of chocolates. She thanked them and there was then that awkward silence that occurs whenever teenagers and adults are put in a position where conversation is expected. Finally, Sally cried: 'Sophie, why don't you take your friends into the garden?' and they made a relieved and very grateful escape.

Tony asked Maria: 'Why don't I just go now? They might get the wrong idea about the two of us. About the nature of our relationship.' She told him that she would tell them what the situation was but he sighed: 'Yeah but sometimes people don't believe what they are told.'

She told him: 'Well that will be their problem won't it? No. No you are not going yet!' then smiled at the baby: 'Is he Liam?' Tony smiled to himself, clearly delighted that she felt so strongly about him staying.

Rosie was enjoying herself by embarrassing Ben as she, like a cat playing with a mouse, purred: 'The thing I don't get is why Christianity is so down on sex.' He looked at her blankly and she smirked: 'It's all about what you should and shouldn't do. Surely if something's enjoyable and natural it's good isn't it?'

Inside the house, Sian opined: 'If that was my sister she'd be getting a slap about now.' Sophie growled that she might just do that in a minute and finally reached for the door as Ryan muttered: 'Well I wouldn't wait too long.'

She screeched loudly: 'Excuse me. Is this a private conversation or can anyone join in?' Rosie smirked at her sibling: 'Private but I'll give him back to you for now.' then whispered in Ben's ear, but loud enough for Sophie to hear: 'Speak to you later Ben.' Ben gulped: 'Yeah sure.' and scurried back under Sophie's furious gaze.

Ben's parents arrived and Mrs Richardson told Sally it was very nice of her to invite them, laughing: 'Ben didn't think so though. Us coming to a party he was going to? He couldn't believe such a thing could happen!' Sally told them Ben was in the garden and his father smiled: 'In that case we'd better stay inside then.' Sally offered them some wine but he told her: 'We'll help ourselves to a soft drink if that's alright?' and she lied ingratiatingly: 'Of course. I don't normally drink alcohol, only on special occasions.' (Yes, like days with a y in their name.)

Sally frowned as Pam walked in and told her she wasn't expecting her. Pam smiled: 'No, Ty invited me. Thought I might help out with the catering.' Sally looked at the proffered plate and sniped unkindly: 'Brought us your leftovers have you?' Pam told her they were not past their sell by date and added: 'I also got you this.' Sally's attitude immediately changed as Pam handed her a gift wrapped present and she beamed: 'That's lovely! Please help yourself to a drink.'

However, as Pam went into the dining area, Sally quickly and deftly slid the plate of rolls under the wall unit and dashed off into the garden.

She told Kevin they were going to run out of drinks, especially soft ones. Bill asked, a note of panic in his voice: 'You're not going to ask us to go without are you?' She replied: 'No but I think you should go out and get at least another two dozen cans of beer and some more wine.' Kev shrugged and told her he'd take care of it.

Fiz was furious and told Chesney that she had been to see John and after the way he'd behaved today didn't care what he thought about it. She asked Kirk: 'Has he told you what he did?' Kirk hooted: 'Yeah, he told 'em you scratched Rosie Webster's car?' She scowled: 'And you think that's funny?' His grin vanished and he mumbled a no as she raged: 'It was a nasty trick and he should be ashamed of himself!' Chesney fired back that so should she but she yelled: 'What? For seeing John? Well I'm not and I never will be!' As she slammed out of the house, Kirk told his pal: 'Don't worry. She'll have forgotten about it by tomorrow.' but Chesney replied sourly: 'Yeah but I won't!'

Arriving for the party, Ty and Molly were surprised to see Kevin leaving the house and Ty cried: 'Party's not finished already?' Kevin told him he was just going to get some more booze and to go straight through: 'Everybody's in the back.' Ty beamed: 'Will do.' and headed into the house but Molly made no move to follow him.

Kevin looked her up and down and told her: 'You look very nice.' She smiled back and with a quiet: 'Thank you.' brushed against him as she went into the house.

A few minutes later, a mobile phone rang. Molly frowned: 'That's not mine is it?' Ty told her: 'Actually, it sounds like Kev's' Spotting Kevin's mobile on the side, Sally cried: It is.' and went to answer it. She picked up and it answered: 'Hello? No I'm afraid he's not here at the moment. Can I take a message?' Molly's blood ran cold as Sally frowned: 'An executive room's become available if he wants one? Well when's that for?' She looked round as the door opened and Kev breezed in with the drink and beamed: 'No need to panic! Relief supplies have arrived.'

Kev stopped in his tracks and Sally frowned: 'You say you're the Highbury Castle Hotel? And my husband's made a booking with you?' With the appropriately titled Love Will Tear Us Apart playing in the background, Kevin swallowed hard as Sally looked at him and asked the caller: 'Are you sure about that?'
