With dinner almost ready, Helen griped that she had just sent Maria a text asking if she would be gracing them with her presence. Right on cue, the door opened and Maria arrived with Tony and apologised: 'It's all been a bit of a rush.' Helen sniped: 'Did you manage to find time for your husband?' Maria replied: 'If you mean did I visit the grave, yes I did and I wish you wouldn't put it like that Helen.' Tony told them diplomatically that all the flowers looked lovely but Helen merely sniffed: 'I'll go do the gravy.'

Maria looked at the table and frowned that she had only set five places. Helen snapped rather rudely: 'This is a family occasion.' Tony mumbled that he could easily go but Maria cried: 'Tony? No, I want you here!' Sensing the temperature drop several degrees, Michelle tried to sound cheery as she told her: 'No probs, I'll just set another place.'

Back at the office, Luke continued to butter Rosie up as he told her: 'First time I clapped eyes on you I knew you were destined for big things.' She cried: 'But me, the boss, at my age?' He smiled: 'Why not? You're twice as bright as Carla and look at her out in La living the high life. You just have to go for it. We have to move quick though.' She sat back in the boss's chair and sighed dreamily: 'I've always known. I've always known I'm not like everybody else round here.' He told her she might as well transfer the money into his account as soon as and his solicitor could get started on the paperwork. To his delight she pulled out her phone and cried excitedly: 'I might as well ring the bank right now!'

He was delighted but then she stopped and mused: 'Ninety grand is a lot of money. I should mention it to my mum and dad first.' He smiled: 'Yes. Go home now and tell 'em the good news.' She picked her coat up and he continued: 'Then again, you could wait till it's all signed and sealed, gather everyone here, the worler4s, your family, Tony, and then you make your big announcement!' He knew he had her hook, line and sinker as her eyes lit up and he cried: 'It'd be brilliant. Just think of the look on their faces!'

As Dev exploded, Umed protested that Teresa was not a threat to the public. Even Darryl took her side and told him: 'She's cooked me loads of meals and I'm still here.' Umed managed to pour oil on already troubled waters as he cried: 'From what I have been told she only ever poisoned her spouse and who hasn't wanted to do that at some time in their life?' Dev cried: 'What is wrong with you?' but Umed, eager to escape, cried: 'I can't talk to you when you are like this. Come and see me when you have calmed down.' Darryl smiled to himself as Umed legged it and Dev gasped: 'Is that a smirk? Cos believe me sonny, you have got nothing to smirk about?'

Darryl told him not to start on him but Dev snarled: 'You are a waste of space. As a manager, you make a great coat stand.' Daryl retorted: 'Hang on. Umed's your uncle, not mine. You sort him out.' Dev bellowed at him: 'You are a disaster. You won't take responsibility for anything. Well you had better not step out of line again sonny because I am watching you like a hawk.'

Darryl's face broke into a grin and he replied: 'Nah. You're not. Because I'm out of here, for good.' Dev smirked: 'No you're not because you have to server your notice.' but Darryl, taking off his apron, replied: 'No, I don't have to do anything you say because you're not my boss any more.' and Dev found the apron shoved into his arms as he stood and watched Darryl walk out of the door.

Leanne was on the phone to someone and asked: 'Well didn't you know that Maria and Tony are together? Serious? Yeah, I'd say so. Didn't you know that he also delivered her baby? Janice said she'd never seemed him so soppy. She says the way he goes on about baby Liam you'd think it was his. Hey, I'll have to give Blanche a tenner and get her to dig the dirt.' She listened and then told the mystery caller: 'Okay, well I promise I'll ring you if I hear anything else. Alright, bye.'

Teresa spotted Darryl at the bus stop with his bag and asked what he was doing. He sighed: 'Amber's gone. I've quit me job. There's no point in sticking around is there?' She gasped: 'And you weren't going to tell me?' He told her he was going to text her. She cried: 'Oh charming.' and he sighed: 'You know I hate goodbyes. I've had too many of them.'

She looked at him sadly but knew that she'd been responsible for most of them. She sighed: 'Come here you big soft melt.' and hugged him. He looked up to see the bus approaching and picked up his bag. Putting on a brave face she told him: 'See ya. Wouldn't want to be ya.' and he smiled: 'Right back at you.' and climbed onboard the bus. Teresa waved as it pulled away but there was no mistaking the sadness in her eyes as she watched the last of her children leave Weatherfield.

As Michelle headed off to her shift at The Rovers, Barry suggested they go to the pub and raise a glass to their Liam. Maria told them: 'I'm a bit tired. I think I'll just have an early night.' Tony added: 'Me too. I'll stick the dishes in the dishwasher then I'll be off back to the flat.' Helen opined that a brandy or two might help Maria sleep but Maria told her: 'I think I'd prefer to be on my own for a bit. It's been a bit of a day, you know?'

Helen told her: 'And I'm sorry if I was a bit off with you earlier. Anniversaries are difficult, and this being the first...' Her eyes filled with tears and Maria held her arms out to her and told her softly: 'Come here.'

Teresa told Lloyd about Darryl going to Spain and that she would miss him. As he handed her container back to her, he told her she made a mean curry. She smiled: 'I'm a woman of many talents but what you see is what you get. Not like that Liz McDonald. So overdone. I bet she gets her clothes from Trannies R Us. And when's the last time she let her pores breath eh? Two inches of makeup caked on.' Lloyd laughed: 'Well no-one could accuse you of being too high maintenance could they? Rub a flannel across your face and you're good to go.' She laughed back: 'Shut your mouth. I'm a goddess and you know it.' and he winced playfully as she kissed him on the cheek.

The identity of Leanne's mystery caller became clear as she and Janice discussed Carla. Janice mused: 'It was a bit weird, her just getting off like that. They must have had one hell of a row.' Leanne smiled: 'Yeah, they were like Weatherfield's answer to Burton and Taylor weren't they?' Janice opined that it made him being with Maria all the more odd: 'I mean, nice enough lass but a bit boring.' and Leanne confided: 'Yeah, well Carla wasn't best pleased when I told her about them. She couldn't believe it!'

Noticing how quiet his son was., Bill asked Kevin what was wrong: 'You and Sally had a row?' Kevin sighed: 'No, we're fine. I don't know, I just sometimes think life is passing me by.' Bill shook his head and told him sagely: 'Come off it lad. I'm a good twenty years nearer the grave than you. You're practically a spring chicken!' They looked over to see Rosie and Luke together and Bill mused: 'I thought them two had split up. They look lovey dovey enough now. Tsk, all that chopping and changing. Aren't you glad you've put all that behind you?'

Rosie giggled to Luke: 'I can't wait. I am going to make the workers wear uniforms. Dark blue overalls and hairnets like a butcher wears. You know, like a string bag but they're not?' Luke managed to contain his mirth and told her he was sure they would love that. She replied haughtily: 'Well they better had cos if they don't...' and drew her finger across her throat.

Michelle joined her parents and asked: 'Did Maria not fancy coming.' Helen griped: 'Couldn't tear herself away from lover boy more like. I can't believe how she has moved on, with indecent haste some might say.' Michelle sighed: 'Well I have to admit I felt the same way Mum. I couldn't stand seeing her with Tony. It kinda felt like she was being disloyal to Liam. But she's not, Not really.'

Janice was ready to go and told Leanne: 'Right, I'm starving. What are you making me?' but found herself shushed as Leanne listened in to the conversation behind her. Barry reasoned: 'We're back to Ireland after the christening. We're not best pleased with what's going on but at least she has someone looking out for her and the baby so I think we should cut her a bit of slack.' Leanne leant forward and hissed: 'Sorry Jan, I said I'd keep Carla updated with any news and it looks like I just got the latest instalment.'

Tony brought out champagne and told Maria they had something to celebrate. She looked a little uncomfortable and he sighed: 'I'm sorry. I'm moving too fast. We don't have to get married for ages.' She reminded him he was still married to Carla and he asked: 'Is that's what's bothering you?' and took of his wedding ring and laid it on the table, telling her: 'I should have done that a long time ago.' She sighed: 'My head is all over the place. When I think of me and you I'm dead happy but what right have I got when people are still suffering?'

He replied understandingly: 'It's my fault. I should have waited.' She told him she was glad that he had proposed: 'But I feel like a fraud. It's all still so raw for Helen and Barry.' Tony told her she didn't have to grieve for the rest of her life. She told him she knew that: 'But we can't let them know we are engaged. They'll be so hurt.'

Umed told Dev: 'Don't worry, I will take over the shop. I'm a brilliant manager.' Dev told him he was a disaster and had ripped off his customers but Umed blustered: 'You have to have a killer instinct in business. It put money in your pockets. I'm not known as the Indian Richard Branson for nothing. Only last week the very man phoned me up for advice on his airline.' but was left stunned as Dev cried in frustration: 'Please! You're a total fantasist! I don't want to hear any more.' and walked out of the pub.

Rosie looked over the bar and asked Luke: 'Can we at least tell my dad? Look at him. He looks like he needs cheering up.' Luke shrugged: 'It's up to you. But I've got a better idea. Why don't we go back to mine and celebrate properly?' As they headed for the door, Bill told Rosie she looked like that cat that got the cream and she smiled: 'I am. All I will say is watch this space. You are all in for a big surprise.' Kev griped: 'I hope you're not getting engaged or anything stupid like that. It's not five minutes since he dumped you for someone else.' She told him she knew that and, looking at Luke happily, told him: 'And now he's making it up to me, big time!'

It was a rather subdued Umed who returned to the corner shop and Dev immediately apologised for being so harsh. He sighed: 'No, you were only telling the truth. I am a fantasist. Now you are shaming me into telling the truth. I am only here in England because I am hiding. The problem is I get carried away. When I tell a tale I believe it. I did the same with gambling.' Dev pointed out that gambling was illegal in India but Umed sighed: 'There are ways and means. I kept saying to myself this time I'll win. This time I'll win big money. I gambled away my business, my home. I have nothing left.'

Dev told him he knew he could stay with him as long as he liked but he replied: 'I have already overstayed my welcome.' Dev cried: 'No, you've made friends here. People like your tall tales, you eccentricity. Who wants to be like everyone else?' Umed sighed sadly: 'I do. I want my own home again, my own business. I have to go back to Mumbai, sort everything out.' Dev nodded understandingly and told him he would miss him and, as they hugged, Umed told him fondly: 'I will miss you too, my favourite nephew.'

Teresa told Lloyd to make her a cuppa but he cried: 'Eh? It should be you making me one. My back is flaming killing me!' She asked what was the matter and he groaned as he got up: 'Too many flaming hours in a cab, that's what?' She offered to walk up and down his spine but he declined, opining that driving with broken ribs would be even more painful. She cried: 'I've got healing hands, me. I made a lame donkey walk again once, Blackpool beach, 1973.' and before he knew what was happening she had his shirt off his back and him laid face down on the floor.

Ten minutes later he was in heaven and as she got up he sighed: 'I hate to admit it but that was bliss.' She smiled: 'I told you. Healing hands!' He mumbled dreamily: 'I can hardly move. You're going to have to peel me off this carpet.'

She called back hastily: 'Oh I'll just throw a blanket over you. You'll be alright there. Night night.' He looked up and cried: 'Where are you going?' and she told him: 'Hey, you had the bed last night.' He reminded her she was only stopping the one night but she pouted: 'Oh come on. One good turn deserves another?' He protested that he couldn't sleep on the sofa with his bad back and she smiled: 'We can top and tail if you like. Oh come on Lloyd I won't bite.' He groaned as she headed for his bedroom, alling back gleefully: 'Unless you want me to!'

Helen wasn't best pleased to come back and find Maria and Tony sat drinking champagne and cried: 'Oh, I thought you said you needed an early night.' Maria mumbled that they had got talking and she sniped: 'It all looks very cosy. Don't let me stop you from drinking champagne on the anniversary of your husband's death.' Having just been discussing the possibility of Tony adopting Liam as well as their engagement, Maria seemed lost for a reply as Helen asked pointedly: 'Tell me Maria, what is it that you've got to celebrate?'

Back at the flat, Luke sat at his laptop, tapping at the keys and looking intently at the screen. He looked up as Rosie emerged from the bedroom and asked what he was doing. He mumbled: 'Nothing.' and when she asked again he smiled: 'Wouldn't you like to know?'

She smiled: 'Yes I would actually cos you've got guilt written all over your face!' He looked down at the screen and told her: 'Come on then. Come and look, spoil the surprise.' She squealed: 'Oh babes. Oh I am so sorry.' and he hastily closed his laptop. Nodoubt she would have been thrilled at seeing he had been looking at flights to Rio but possibly not as thrilled if she had seen it was for one person and one way.

He smiled: 'Tomorrow's such a big day for you, I want to make sure that everything is right so that it will be a day that you will never forget.' She kissed him and smiled ecstatically: 'Oh babes. I love surprises!'

As Helen tore into her for getting over Liam so quickly, Maria protested: 'I was devastated when Liam died. I thought I'd never get over it.' Helen snorted at Tony: 'Oh but you helped her didn't you? Provided a distraction!' Maria told them Tony had been brilliant and asked if they had any idea how hard it was looking after a baby on your own. Helen cried: 'You have us!' but Maria cried back at her: 'He needs a dad! And I'm sorry it can't be Liam but he's gone! I'm still here, the baby is still here. We have to get on with our lives.'

Her face wrinkled with disgust, Helen sneered: 'The pair of you, all over each other, rubbing our noses in it. And you still haven't answered my question. What is it exactly that you are celebrating?' Tony growled at her not top push it and Barry seethed: 'Don't you talk to my wife like that!'

Maria took a deep breath and told them: 'I know this might be a lot to ask of you right now.' Tony shook his head at her but she continued: 'But I hope in time you will be happy for us.'
