As Jason and Tina told Eileen excitedly about their plans to become property developers, Sean breezed in from getting the milk and cried: 'Oh hello. Hey, David Platt's taking up baseball!' Jason asked what he was on about and Sean replied: 'Well I just saw him outside and he was looking dead glum so I thought I'd cheer him up by telling him how happy you two are now you've finally got it together.' Tina gasped: 'You've told David about us?' and Jason cried, panic in his voice: 'What did he say?'

Sean replied: 'That's the strange thing. He said nothing. He just started to walk away. I shouted after him where are you going and he said he was going to buy a baseball bat!' Jason gasped: 'You are joking, right?' Sean laughed: 'Of course I am joking! A baseball bat? How ridiculous.' then added seriously: ' He'd gone for a gun.' Tina told him he wasn't funny and that she would tell David about her and Jason.

Audrey spotted Tony just about to go into Maria's and he told her was just going to have a final tidy up and make sure everything was straight. She asked if they were coming home today and he confirmed: 'As soon as I get a call from the hospital.' She offered to go with him but he very quickly assured her he could manage on his own. She then asked if Maria had decided on a name yet and looked a little surprised when he told her Liam. He frowned: 'You don't think it's a good idea?' She pondered a moment and told him: 'No, it's a lovely name. Maybe this will help her move on.' and he shrugged: 'Well, she certainly won't ever forget him now.'

Kevin was forced to break off from furtively texting Molly as Sally came down and asked: 'What do you think of having a party for my birthday?' He asked what sort of party and she twittered: 'Nothing too big. Just close friends, nice people.' He frowned: 'Nice people?' and she replied: 'Yes, like Ben's mum and dad. They are nice people. It might be a good chance to get to know them.' He shrugged and told her: 'Whatever you want.' clearly far more interested in getting away so he could carry on texting.

As he left the house for work, Jason froze as he found himself face to face across the street with David. Oblivious to Jason's nervousness, David asked innocently: 'You all right?' and Jason replied, with a nervous swallow first: 'Yeah, fine.' before heading off quickly down the street with Sean.

Sean asked if they were going for a lunchtime workout but Jason told him he was going to see his bank manager about a mortgage. Sean whined: 'Oh come on. You can do that anytime. I want to go. I really need to go.' but Jason told him: 'Go on your own then. You don't need me to hold your hand.'

Anna turned up at the cab office with Eddie's packed lunch and told Eileen: 'He'd forget his own head if it wasn't bolted on.' Eddie sighed: 'Go on, tell Eileen why you won't marry me.' Anna told him he was embarrassing her as Eileen raised her eyebrows and asked: 'You're not married?' Eddie sighed: 'No. She took my name. She bore me a wonderful son. We've run the marathon of life together but she won't take that final step over the finishing line with me.'

As he attempted to ram an entire sandwich into his mouth, he asked Eileen, sending crumbs flying everywhere: 'You've been round the block a few times. I respect your opinion. Can you think of one reason why this woman, or any woman, would not want to marry me.' As Eileen struggled for a reply, Anna smiled: 'Take your time. It's a tough question.'

Leaving for work, Joe asked Graeme to pass him his painkillers from the shelf. Graeme looked at the bottle and remarked: 'Takes me back. DDs!' Joe frowned and Graeme clarified: 'Dihydrocodeine. These were like currency in Young Offenders. Lads were popping 'em like Smarties. Not me of course.' David added: 'Nor me.' Graeme continued: 'So, how do you find them for your back?' Joe muttered that they were fine.

Graeme mused: 'I thought you'd be on Bupenorphine. Little bit strong than your standard prescription but a world class painkiller.' Joe's face hovered somewhere between disbelief and being impressed at Graeme's seemingly in depth knowledge of pharmacy then mumbled that he would see them later and headed off for work.

Bumping into Bill, Pam teased: 'Anything interesting in the paper? Checking the Lonely Hearts?' Bill blustered: 'No, cricket.' She asked who won and he replied: 'County. Billy Hamilton got a ton.' He quickly changed the subject to how her new business venture with Roy and Hayley was going. Spotting Kevin working on a car, Molly sidled over to the garage but beat a hasty retreat as Tyrone appeared, telling him she was just off to work.

As he put the finishing touches to the house, Tony almost jumped for joy as his phone finally rang. Rushing over to it, he was mightily disappointed to find it was Luke calling. He answered irritably: 'What do you want? No, I don't know. Maybe later.' and hung up.

Kevin didn't seem too pleased as Ty told him: 'When I got home last night, Molly had done herself up. She looked fantastic. She'd got a bottle of wine so I nipped out to get another as it looked like it was going to be a special night.' Kev asked through gritted teeth: 'And was it?' He was relieved as Ty sighed: 'Oh aye. I pretty much supped the lot, passed out on the sofa and woke up with a thumping headache. I really need to make it up to her.' Pam appeared told him he could start by buying two sandwiches from her then she would dispense sage advice on how to soothe an angry wife.

As he paid for them, she told him the best way to impress Molly would be to cook her a meal. He wailed that he couldn't cook but smiled as she told him soothingly: 'That, my little dog house dodger, will be why she will be impressed. Even newlyweds have to pull out all the stops occasionally to keep the magic alive. Am I right or an I right Kevin?' Kev, obviously less than keen on Ty and Molly making up, mumbled that she was right and she beamed happily: 'Then my work here is done. Enjoy your butties.'

Seeing Jason speaking to Eddie and Anna, David asked: 'What did they want?' Jason replied: 'Nothing. I was just saying hello.' David sniped that they were both a waste of space. Jason pointed out their son had just gone to jail and was stunned as David smirked: 'Yeah I know. Didn't go exactly to plan but it got the right result. Now with Windass out of the way see, me and Tina will get back together.'

Jason frowned: 'You and Tina?' and David enthused: 'Yeah, that was the reason behind the plan of getting rid of Gary all along you see. I know it's not gonna be easy but I know she still loves me. She just hasn't realised it yet.' Jason looked a very troubled man as David grinned: 'See you later.' and wandered off down the street.

Tony was surprised as he walked into the office and found a large cigar tossed at him by Luke who told him: 'Well you're the nearest thing we've got to a proud father, especially as you did so much to bring the little beggar into the world.' Tony told him he only did what anyone else would have done in the same situation but Luke grimaced: 'I'd have fainted. I feel queasy just thinking about it.'

Tony joked that it was probably the cigar but Luke replied: 'Seriously though, very few men get as close to childbirth as you have.' Then asked: 'So what was it like? Honestly. Was it magical? Or just messy?'

Tony looked thoughtful and told him: 'Honestly? It was a bit of both. I think I was more scared than Maria but I couldn't show her, let her down. But yes, it was magical. It felt like a tug, you know, a tug at the heart. I felt a brand new life in my arms.' He suddenly looked sad and told Luke: 'I once held a dying man in my arms so, in a strange way, it was like coming full circle.' Luke smiled: 'It sounds very emotional. So, are you going to give all this up and retrain as a midwife or a priest?' Tony told him he knew he wouldn't understand but Luke replied, more seriously, 'It sounds like you've had a very, very special experience.' Tony smiled back: 'It was. It was very special.'

Popping into the kebab shop, Pam picked up a copy of The Gazette left by a customer and quickly flicked to the sports pages. She suddenly cried: 'I knew it! County lost and Billy Hamilton was out for a duck. He's a rubbish liar.' Theresa asked who she was on about but she replied: 'Nobody important. Mind if I keep this paper?' and headed out of the shop at high speed.

Graeme was stunned when Joe asked him if he could get him some more of his painkillers. He gasped: 'Are you asking me to score you some drugs?' Joe explained that his doctor didn't want to prescribe him any more but he needed them to keep active. Graeme grinned: 'So you are looking for a supplementary supply. And these will not be used for recreational purposes?' Joe snapped: 'Forget I said anything.' but Graeme replied: 'I'll make some enquiries.' Joe asked: 'And they will the real thing, from a proper company?' Graeme gasped indignantly: 'I am not going to fill a box with mint imperials and charge you twenty quid alright? I am not a drug dealer! Leave it with me.'

At the hospital, Maria held her baby and smiled happily. She kissed him and told him how beautiful he was. She asked him quietly: 'Are you ready to go home?' but then sighed deeply, clearly feeling overwhelmed and anxious at the prospect of going home and looking after her newborn son all by herself. She placed him gently into his cot and took out her mobile phone.

At Underworld, the Executive in Charge of Administration with a Design Remit wittered: 'I was thinking last night, I have a unique perspective within the company. I am our perfect customer. I'm young, educated and I have money to burn.' Tony told her she could buy their whole output for the month if she wanted to. She held up a pair of knickers and cried: 'I mean, look at this.' Luke told her it was one of their best sellers but she screeched: 'It's something my mum would wear. I would only be seen dead in it.' Tony smirked that he would make a note of that but she told them they needed to add something that would appeal to younger women: 'Something more upmarket, more cutting edge.'

Luke simpered that he thought it was a really good idea and she beamed: 'Get the young girls in and eventually they'll get older and be interested in these.' Tony's phone beeped and he muttered: 'Sorry. Maria needs picking up. I have to go.' then smiled: 'Great work Rosie.' He turned to Luke and smirked: 'Who'd have thought a VAT bill could be so expensive? I'm sure you and Rosie can draw up a draft development project. Just don't spend any money honey, all right?'

At the gym, and after what was probably a considerably less than strenuous workout, Sean was relaxing in the Jacuzzi. He looked up as someone walked in and was both delighted and a little embarrassed to see the lad he was ogling the other day walk in and climb into the pool.

Jason told Tina what David had said about them getting back together and warned her: 'When his head goes funny he can be really dangerous you know.' She replied nonchalantly: 'I know that's why I am going to tell him in simple words and short sentences.' But she was stopped in her tracks as Jason told her: 'Look, he got Gary Windass sent down because he thought you fancied him. He was bragging about it.' She gasped: 'He's deranged!'

Seeing Kev on his own at last, Molly crept over to the garage and told him: 'I am so sorry about last night.' but he cried loudly: 'Ty mate? You've got a visitor!' then whispered to her: 'Act surprised.'

Ty appeared with a bunch of flowers and told her: 'This is to say sorry for last night Part One.' She frowned: 'Part one?' and he replied: 'And part two is dinner, cooked by me.' She told him he didn't have to do that but he smiled: 'I know but I want to. I am going to cook your socks off. Dinner is served at seven!'

As Tony arrived to take her home, Maria confessed to her fears as she told him: 'I can't believe they are letting me go home with him. I haven't got a clue what I am doing. I feel safe in here. It's full of experts.' He assured her that every new mother probably felt the same. She sighed: 'Yeah but I am on my own aren't I?' She managed a smile as he told her reassuringly: 'No you are not on your own. You've got Fiz, you've got Kirk, you've got Audrey and you've got me.'

Tina exploded: 'Who does he think he is? Who the hell does he think he is?' Jason told her they'd go round together and tell him but she fumed: 'I can handle David on my own thank you! I can't believe he can wind me up so much without even being here! Does he think he owns me or something I mean, what is going on in his head?' Jason told her he had to get to work but they'd discuss it later and come up with a plan but she snarled: 'I don't need a plan. I need a baseball bat. That's what I need!'

Her mood got even worse as Theresa asked for a packet of fags then announced she'd only got two quid on her and would give her the rest later. Tina snapped: 'No, you give it me now or get out.' Theresa cried: 'Oh come on, we're co-workers. Tell you what, take out twelve and I'll give you two quid for the rest.' but found herself unceremoniously ejected as Tina snarled: 'Sorry, we're shut!'

As Theresa headed for the corner shop, muttering darkly about telling Rita, Tina spotted David going into the house and, still seeing red, marched off towards it as the door closed behind him.

David turned round as she walked into the house, slamming the door behind her and grinned: 'Wow. Come in.' She told him they needed to talk and he smiled and told her she could talk to him anytime but she corrected herself: 'No. I got that wrong. I need to talk and you need to listen.' His grin vanished as she told him: 'I know you set Gary up because you thought he was after me, and I know that somewhere in your sick little mind you thought I fancied him back.'

She took great pleasure in telling him: 'Well you were wrong. I don't fancy Gary. I fancy Jason.' He frowned: 'Jason?' and she retorted: 'Yeah Jason? Good looking bloke? Lives across the road? You must have seen him around. We're together. He's my boyfriend and I'm like so chuffed because he's so fit.'

He told her she was lying but she stepped closer and hissed: 'Am I? Look into my eyes David. The eyes never lie. I am never, ever, getting back with you. I am with Jason!'
