Tony hastily lied that Roy had come round to tell him about what they were doing to do with his donation: 'I now know everything there is to know about crested newts, their habitat and the great work that Weatherfield Conservation Society is doing. Roy is a man of boundless energy when he has a bee in his bonnet. Well, not a bee obviously. Not at this time of year obviously. They'd be hibernating.' Roy interjected sniffily that bees didn't hibernate and Hayley told him sharply: 'I've told you before Roy. Not everyone shares your fascination with nature. I'm sorry Mr. Gordon.'

Tony smiled: 'I think he wants me to get involved now I'm bankrolling their winter project.' Hayley told him she had just come to get the number of the new maintenance engineer and Tony told her where she would find it. She told Roy: 'Come on, let's leave these good people alone.' and Roy followed her to the door, telling Tony pointedly: 'I hope you have a think about what I said.' As the door closed behind them, Maria smiled: 'I guess the honeymoon is over then. I sort of got the impression he is beginning to get on your nerves.' and Tony growled: 'Understatement of the year.'

Hayley was furious with Roy but he cried: 'He was lying about the newts. We were talking about the murder.' She screeched that he'd promised he would drop it but he told her: 'I can't ignore what I know to be true. I have told him to confess to the police. Deep down, I believe that is what he wants to do.' Hayley snorted: 'Oh yeah, so deep down that it's the last thing on his mind.' and looked at him in disbelief as he mumbled: 'Well he did seem a bit surprised when I mentioned it.'

As they went inside, Kirk took out his mobile and dialed a number.. As its voicemail kicked in he cried urgently: 'Chesney, ring me. I need your help!'

Joe was staggered to be told he owed nine grand. He asked who to and was told Northern Kitchen Supplies. He snorted: 'Len Windass and his pals. That was two grand max!' Neelan replied: 'Plus interest, plus more interest and there'll be even more if you don't pay up. Now, have you got cash or do I have to strip the place?'

Chesney and Kirk approached David and Zoe and Chez told them: 'John is coming out tomorrow and Fiz is upset that the place is a state. We're looking for volunteers to help decorate.' David replied that he had never volunteered for anything in his life. Chesney pleaded: 'Oh come on. Do something nice for once in your life. Make Fiz's day. She'd do it for you.' David smirked: 'Make it a tenner an hour and you're on.' but Zoe jumped off the wall and told Chesney with a smile: 'Don't worry. I'll help.' David snorted: 'There's always one isn't there?' but she smiled back: 'No, there's two actually cos you're coming with me.'

As Neelan began totting up the value of the house contents, Joe protested that it was his faincee's house. Neelan replied: 'I bet you think I'm a right so and so but I'm not. See I waited for your fiancee to go out to spare your blushes. If I have to come back again it'll be when you're all sat round having your tea and I won't be on my own.' Joe told him he would get his money for him tomorrow but he told him: 'Sorry Joe, I can't leave here without at least a downpayment.' He looked out of the window and smiled: 'I know something you can give me.'

Roy told Hayley what he'd said to Tony and mused: 'I thought he was going to confess to Maria there and then when you walked in but he didn't.' She replied sarkily: 'Surprise surprise.' but he continued: 'I'm sure he will realise that I am right.' She hissed that not everyone lived on the same planet as him where everything was clear cut and black and white but he snapped back: 'On the contrary Hayley, nothing about this is clear cut but I am doing what my conscience is telling me to do.'

Norris took great pleasure in informing Graeme that he was not getting paid because there was bird muck on the bathroom window. Graeme replied: 'Yeah, fresh bird muck deposited after I'd cleaned then!' but Norris retorted: 'I don't believe you and I'm not paying you.' Graeme shrugged and went over to the magazine shelves and asked sarkily: 'Do you stock magazines on window cleaning? Windows Cleaning Monthly or Chamois International?' Norris told him no and he continued: 'No, but you've got a good collection of gardening porn though.'

He snatched up a clutch of magazines, checked the prices and told Norris: 'That comes to five pounds forty. You owe me sixty pee!' Norris cried: 'No, you owe me five pounds forty.' but Graeme replied: 'No, you owe me six quid and I'm taking these in lieu of payment.'

And so, Joe was forced to hand the keys to his van over to Neelan, He told Neelan: 'But that's it. You take my van and we're quits. You don't come near this house again.' Neelan started up the engine and smiled smugly: 'Don't worry Joe. You'll bounce back.' As Neelan began to steer it towards the factory to turn round, Joe headed miserably towards the pub.

Returning from walking Ozzy and looking rather weary, Tony sank onto the bench to catch his breath. Spotting him, Roy homed in on him and told him: 'I didn't finish what I had to say. Everyone says I saved your life. Now it's your turn to do something for me.' Tony told him to change the record but Roy cried: 'You killed a man. It can't simply be brushed aside!' Tony told him he was starting to get right up his nose but Roy continued: 'I realise you are trying to make amends but you can't operate your own brand of justice!'

Cleary disturbed, Tony cried: 'What gives you the right to play judge and jury? To harass me? Leave me alone Roy!' Looking a little shaky, he told Ozzy to come on and made his way back to the house while Roy's eyes bored into his back.

Ted and Tina were just in the process of drinking a toast to Gail and Joe's engagement when Tyrone burst in through the pub doors anxiously looking for Joe.

Ty cried: 'Sorry to bother you mate but I've just seen some bloke driving off in your van!' Joe mumbled: 'Er, yeah. The new owner.' and explained that he had just sold it: 'I don't need it now. Got a good price for it.' As Ty left, Tina asked how much he got for it. He blustered: 'You don't ask a gentleman a question like that.' She asked again and he blustered: 'Enough to get a certain lady a rock.' Tina snorted: 'Is that rock as a lump of?' but he spluttered: 'No is an precious, rare, just like my fiancee!'

Kirk and crew were hard at work when Chesney suddenly spotted Fiz through the window heading for the house. Kirk cried: 'Get out there! Stop her!' Grabbing his coat, Chesney asked how long they needed and he cried: 'About an hour. Go!' Chesney closed the front door behind him just as Fiz reached it and hastily asked if she fancied going for a pizza. Not suspecting anything, Fiz happily agreed and the pair strolled off leaving the sixty minute makeover gang to continue.

Roy was now like a dog with a bone and hammered on Tony's door but, having drawn the curtains to shut out the outside world and a certain cafe owner, Tony sat inside in the darkened house and refused to answer.

Finding Connie in the pub, Molly asked if she was waiting for Jack. She sniffed: 'If he shows his face. I don't know what I've done wrong.' Ty shrugged: 'Maybe he just can't settle at your place. He's like one of his pigeons is Jack.' Connie replied that she would have got an inkling if that was the case: 'He's happy as Larry one minute and the next?' Molly told her she hoped that made up but Connie huffed: 'Well I'm not begging him to come back. He can do as he pleases!'

The pub door opened and Jack walked in. Realising Connie was there he quickly turned on his heel but it was too late as Ty cried: 'Oh, hiya Jack!' Molly told Connie diplomatically that they would leave them to it and, looking like a man heading to the gallows, Jack asked Connie: 'What do you fancy?' He looked even worse as she replied: 'An explanation. A large one with ice and lemon.'

Maria arrived home and Tony asked if she'd seen Roy outside. She shrugged no and he cried: 'He's been round again.' She asked why and he wailed: 'I don't know. He's developed some sort of obsession with me. He's a weirdo!' She looked at him and noticed he was shaking and he confessed 'I don't feel too good.' She told him she was taking him to the hospital to get looked at but he insisted he was okay and just needed to sit and have a cuddle with Liam. Clearly annoyed, she told him: 'Right, I've had enough of this. I'm going round to see him!'

Fiz couldn't believe her eyes as she arrived home with Chesney and gasped: 'What's this?' Chesney told her it was Kirk and she cried: 'Kirk did all this? No way!' From the cupboard under the stairs, a muffled voice cried: 'Oi, I'm quite handy with a paintbrush!'

The cupboard door opened and Kirk emerged crying: 'It was me you know.' Fiz gasped in disbelief as David jumped out of the other cupboard and grinned: 'And me!' followed by Zoe who cried: 'And me too!'

Jack told Connie she was a wonderful woman and a very dear friend. She replied glumly that she didn't like the sound of that and he continued: 'I thought I'd never laugh again after our Vera. You put the smile back on my face but....' She told him to spit it out and he blurted: 'I can't give you what you want.' She pondered a moment then asked: 'Is this about you not putting the toilet seat down? I know I got on at you about it but just forget it!' He told her was sorry but he didn't have those kind of feelings for her. She cried: 'Nor me for you. Look, if I give you a wink when I'm dishing up dinner it isn't code for get up them stairs.' He told her she knew what she had done but she replied: 'No I don't but you'd better hurry up and tell me or you and me are gonna fall out.'

Roy was taken aback when Maria turned up and asked him what he was doing: 'Roy, no-one is more grateful than me for what you did but Tony is still a very sick man!' Hayley walked in from upstairs as Roy mumbled that he only visited once or twice and Maria cried: 'Phoning him? Following him about? It's starting to bug him Roy and to be honest it's starting to bug me!'

She continued: 'You know, he was getting better but he's starting to deteriorate again now so just please, back off eh?' As she left, he looked sheepishly at Hayley who told him flatly: 'That's you told!'

Graeme walked into the pub and plonked Norris's magazines on the bar and told him he could have them back. Norris spluttered: 'They are no good. You've thumbed them!' Frieda told him to quit while he was ahead but he cried: 'But I'm not ahead am I? I can't sell those at cover price now, can I?' Graeme took out a pound coin and told him: 'No, you're right.' and placed it on top of them. Norris smirked that he was glad he had seen the error in his ways. Frieda couldn't help but smile asGraeme shrugged and smirked: 'Not really. Emily's paid me. In full. See you in six weeks!'

Connie told Jack that he was normally straight with folk and that's what she liked about him. He took a deep breath and blurted: 'I've heard you outside me bedroom door at night.' She replied indignantly that he had not and cried: 'That's impossible.' then went rather quiet and murmured: 'Unless...'

She sighed: 'Oh no. It hasn't happened for a while. I hoped it had stopped for good.' He asked what she was on about and she confessed: 'The sleep walking. I'm like Albert Wainwright when I start. I've even ended up in neighbours gardens.' Jack spluttered: 'Sleepwalking?' and the pair burst out laughing together. Connie hooted: 'And you thought I was being fresh!' and he chuckled: 'Well it had happened more than once.' She laughed: 'If it happens again give me a shake and point me back to bed That is if you're coming home?' Jack told her happily: 'I can't wait!'

Molly opined that it looked like everything was sorted and asked: 'Shall we ask Kevin and Sally to join us?' Tyrone looked over at his boss and his wife, whose mouth was flapping at high speed, and told her: 'It looks like those two are having a heated debate.'

Sure enough, Sally was off one one as she squawked at Kevin that he seemed to have given up and accepted that John Stape was goring to live across the street. He told her that it was what Rosie had been told and that he didn't make the law up: 'He's allowed to live where he wants.' As Sally moaned on and on and on, Molly opined that Kevin couldn't get a word in edgeways but Ty replied: 'Yeah, he loves it though.' She snorted: 'What? Being henpecked?' but looked put out as he replied: 'Hey, they've been married near twenty years. They're devoted to each other!'

He continued: 'I know they've been separated and had affairs but they always end up back together. All the other women he's been with, at the end of the day, obviously meant nothing.' Forlorn, she asked how many there had been and he mused: 'Well, there was Natalie Horrocks, she was the biggie, the he was with Alison but I think that was when him and Sal had split up and then there was Molly.' She frowned: 'Molly?' and he replied: 'Mm, the nurse. Mind you he dropped her like a stone as soon as Sally clicked her fingers.'

The atmosphere seemed a little strained chez Cropper and Hayley told Roy she was going to bed and not to stay up reading too late. As she went into the bedroom, Roy put his book down on his lap but it seemed accompanying her was the last thing on his mind,
