Tony demanded: 'What the hell are you doing back here?' and Carla smirked: 'Oh, a girl tires of West Hollywood. The sun, lying by the pool all day, shopping on Rodeo Drive. I missed the urban grime.' He hissed: 'LA? I'm sure the glamour suited you. Feel free to rush straight back.' She snapped: 'Don't threaten me Tony. Not when we have unfinished business.' He replied grimly: 'I take it you mean the Liam business.'

She replied coldly: 'The Maria business as it happens. A little bird tells me you're no stranger to her bed.' and he shrugged: 'A little bird called Leanne? You left, Carla. Nothing to do with you.' She told him he knew the reason why she left and that it had everything to do with her. He glowered: 'The bitch is back.' and she smirked: 'Yes, and she's going to put a stop to it!' She walked away and, as he yelled her name after her, she stopped and asked pointedly: 'What's the matter Tony? You scared?'

Ty wished Molly a happy birthday and she thanked him for her card and chocolates. He smiled: 'And I've organised a nice surprise for you later. Jack and Vera are going to join us for a bite to eat in The Rovers.' She smiled: 'That's lovely. So why are you eating a pasty?' He grinned: 'That's my starter. And Kev and Sal are going to join us later.' Her phone rang but, suspecting it might be Kevin, she mumbled that she couldn't be bothered to answer it.

Tony told Carla that he and Maria were in love and she snapped: 'Not too long ago you said you loved me. With a passion.' He told her he did and she added: 'With a vengeance!' He frowned: 'Are you saying you want us to get back together?' and she laughed: 'Oh my, it's all bout you isn't it? Well you must have brainwashed her. A year ago ago she was accusing you of killing her fella and trying to run you over! What is it now eh? Picking out match pots together? Domestic bliss?' Tony began: 'I love her, and what's more...' but Carla cried: 'Of course, what she doesn't know... Or at least I'm assuming she doesn't know or why else would she be with you, is that you did kill him.'

She continued: 'And what's more? You said I love her and what's more.' She looked stunned as he told her: 'I love her very much, and that's why we're engaged.' Seeing her shock he smirked: 'Are you jealous Carla?' She recovered quickly and hissed that it was sick and twisted. He replied: 'It's real and can I point out that you are not whiter than white in al this? You never loved me, you loved him. He never loved her, he loved you. Me and her are your leftovers, a perfect match.'

She snapped that they weren't two evacuees who never got picked but he smiled: 'He took my place in your affections, I took his in Maria's. I think the symmetry is rather beautiful.' She spat that it was sick and ugly and told him: 'I never told the police. I did that for you. So now you are going to do this for me. Stop playacting. You're not Liam. You're not his wife's lover or his kid's dad. You walk away! From Maria, from that baby, from Manchester!' He growled defiantly: 'Or what?' and she whispered: 'Or I'll tell her. Everything!'

In the salon, Audrey moaned that it was typical that Natasha should be off sick when she needed someone to do her hair for the christening: 'I want to look my best for Maria. I'm the closest thing she has to family round here. Well apart from Kirk and he's neither use nor ornament.' She asked David if he was going and he snorted sarkily: 'Yeah, cos me and her and like brother and sister.' She continued to chunter on till he suddenly gasped: 'Oh my God. Gran, come and have a look at this!'

She rushed to the window and gasped at the sight of Joe towing a boat on a trailer towards Gail's. Audrey cried, mouth agape: 'What does he think he is doing now?' David gasped in disbelief: 'A boat? The big freak!' and they both rushed towards the shop door.

Feet up in the office, Rosie answered the phone to find Luke's solicitor on the phone trying to get hold of him. She simpered: 'Oh hi, he's out at the moment but I'm his partner so you can talk to me. I assume it's about the transfer of his shares into my name.' She listened to the reply and frowned: 'Well how long will it take? To get his shares into my name!'

Whatever the reply was, it certainly got h3r attention as she suddenly sat up and cried in disbelief: 'What? I'm sorry?'

Audrey asked Joe if he'd taken leave of his senses but he assured her: 'I've never been more sane. David?' David shook his head and grinned: 'My mam is going to hate it.' Joe cried: 'You're wrong. She's going to love it!' Audrey told it was an eyesore and that there was barely room to get up the path. David laughed: 'Well, only if you're anorexic!' but Joe, climbing onboard, told them: 'There's plenty of room and you're both wrong. She is a thing of beauty!' David shook his head again and told him with a grin: 'Well I guess that makes you bog eyed then!'

Blanche has turned up at Emily's clearly hoping to wangle an invite to lunch. Emily listened patiently as she blustered: 'Birthday's need to be celebrated, especially at your age. You never know when it might be the last. I didn't bother with a present. I often think all that is more to do with the giver than the recipient and, frankly, I'm not that selfish.' Emily looked relieved as the phone rang and went to answer it.

She popped her head back round the door and whispered that it was Frieda. 'The deaf one?' cried Blanche: 'Well how can she hear you? Or is she putting it on to claim disability benefit?' Emily explained that it was a special set up where they go through a call centre and an operator typed the relayed conversation. Blanche raised her eyebrows and opined: 'What a pallaver. Who'd be deaf? Not me!'

The phone call from Luke's solicitor seemed to have sent Rosie into a blind panic and she rushed round to the flat. Her worst fears seemed to be realised as she saw a note propped up on the side with her name on the front. She unfolded it with shaking hands to find that it read simply: 'Sorry.' As the truth began to dawn on her she reached into her three grand designer bag for her phone and frantically dialled the bank. She cried: 'I haven't got much time. I need to be quick.' but then almost exploded with frustration as she was forced to go through giving her postcode and certain letters of her password etc.

Finally through, and hopping around as if she needed the toilet, she cried: 'I need to cancel a transaction. There's a money order going out from my account today and I need you to stop it! It's for a Luke Strong and it's about...' She fell silent then gasped: 'I'm sorry?' She screeched: 'Yes! And I need you to stop it.' Her face suddenly contorted in horror and she cried: 'What do you mean it's too late?' Fortunately, ITV kindly provided a commercial break at this point to give viewers everywhere time to stop laughing before the show continued.

Gail almost knocked Audrey over as she left work and asked what she wanted: 'I promised to meet Joe at lunchtime so if you're thinking of dragging me to Roy's I'm going home. Audrey huffed: 'Good, the sooner you get home the better.' Crossing the3 road, Gail sighed: 'Oh, what's David done now.' but Audrey cried: 'It's not David. It's Joe!'

Gail stopped in her tracks at the sight that awaited her. Joe's head popped up and he beamed: 'Aye aye, Captain. What do you think?' Gail was lost for words and Audrey cried: 'Catatonic with shock is what it looks like.' Gail gasped: 'Whose is it?' and Joe cried: 'Mine. I bought it from Bill Webster for a song.' She cried in response: 'Which one? Money for nothing?' He beamed: 'I see what you did there. Very good. And it's on your path because, well do you know how much moorings cost?'

She told him he could get on the phone to Bill Webster and ask for his money back and sank numbly into the wall. Audrey asked: 'Are you alright lovey?' and she replied quietly: 'Sometimes, just sometimes, you need to sit down.'

Tony told Carla she had no proof but she shrugged: 'I'll leave that to the police All I have to do is tell them about your confession and Jimmy's involvement.' He asked if she thought they would believe her and she replied: 'Maybe not. Maybe you're right. Maybe they'll think I'm mental. Maybe they'll think there's no proof. Maybe you and Jimmy tied up every loose end. Maybe you're so good under pressure that you'll win those coppers over. And maybe Jimmy won't crack.'

She shrugged: 'Who knows? I do know one thing though.' He growled: 'What?' and she replied with a smirk: 'That's a lot of maybes for a control freak like you.'

As they tucked into lunch, Maria wondered if they should have waited for Tony. Helen told her: 'Time and tide wait for no man. Especially when there's a christening to go to.' Maria told them that maybe she should pop over to the factory and tell him his dinner was on the table but Helen pointed out: 'If his meeting is that important he's not going to thank you for interrupting it and telling him his dinner is on the table.' There was a knock at the door and Barry smiled: 'Ah, I bet that's him.'

Maria told them Tony had a key and Barry opened the door to Julie who apologised profusely for interrupting their big day and asked: 'Is Mr Gordon here? It's all kicking off over at the factory. Luke has beggared off without so much as a by your leave, Rosie has gone awol and I was hoping Mr Gordon might be able to pop over and restore some peace.' Maria was surprised that he wasn't at the factory and told her: 'He's just popped out Julie but I'll call him, okay?'

She went into the kitchen and called his mobile but, wherever he was, he wasn't answering.

Rosie rushed back into the factory and, clearly distraught, headed straight into the office and closed the door behind her. Spotting her, Sally followed her and asked if she was alright. Rosie told her to leave her alone and, closing the door behind her, Sally sighed: 'You know, it's like a madhouse out there today. What's that story about where the animals stage a revolution?' Rosie frowned: 'What? Babe. Pig In The City?' Sally replied: 'No, Animal Farm. Thats what happens when you leaders go away.'

She asked again what was wrong and cooed: 'Come on, you're still my little girl.' Rosie wailed: 'Well guess what Mum, your little girl has messed up once again.' Sally asked what she meant and she confessed: 'Luke's ripped me off. I said I would buy his shares in this place so he could invest in another business and I would own over half of this place. Only he's run off with the money. I thought I had everything. Him, the factory...'

Sally gasped: 'How much? How much did you give him?' Rosie blobbed tearfully: 'Ninety.' Sally frowned: 'Pounds?' and nearly fainted as Rosie snivelled: 'Thousand.' She screeched: 'You gave Luke Strong Ninety Thousand pounds?'

Rosie screeched at her to get out but Sally cried: 'Rosie? This is serious!' Rosie cried hysterically: 'I know it is and I won't stand for it. As soon as Tony gets back... I've been made a mug of. And all because I wanted what was best for this factory.' Sally snorted: 'You've been made a mug of because you were greedy. You stupid girl. Half the street could retire on ninety thousand pounds!' but Rosie yelled at her to get out, physically shoved her out of the office and bolted the door behind her.

Tony told Carla she wasn't quite seeing the whole picture: 'I could walk away from Maria but you're forgetting the factory. People's livelihoods depend on me.' She smiled back: 'Ah, no. They depend on me. You see I've taken my shares back from Luke and now I want yours.'

He snorted: 'And I just hand them over, just like that do I?' but she replied flatly: 'No, you don't just hand them over. You sell them to me.'

Sally arrived home and Kevin asked: 'Shouldn't you be at work?' She asked: 'Shouldn't you?' He told her he was just writing Molly's birthday card and that they were going for a drink with her and Tyrone later. She muttered something and he asked: 'Don't you want to go? She came to yours.' but Sally snapped: 'Yeah, and swanned about in a hideous black dress trying to look like a Bond girl. I don't give a damn about Molly Dobbs. We've got bigger fish to fry.'

He asked what was wrong and she sighed: 'Rosie. I feel sick.' He sighed: 'What has she done now?' Sally took a deep breath and told him: 'Lost all her money.' He frowned in disbelief: 'She can't have lost all of it. How much are we talking...' but trailed off, Sally's ashen face telling him everything he needed to know.

As the clock struck two, Tony told Carla he never thought she would stoop so low. She replied nonchalantly: 'I'm not the murderer here Tony. That's your department.' but he replied: 'No, but you'll use it. Use it as leverage to get a good deal.'

She shrugged that no-one said business was fair. He told her he didn't sign up for this but she snapped: 'You signed your life away when you ran a pick up truck at Liam's head.' He told her sarcastically that he had missed her and she sneered: 'You missed knowing what I was up to. You didn't like it did you, not knowing where I was, who it might be every time the phone rang. See I know you Tony. You're like a swan. Calm and serene on the surface but underneath you're paddling and panicking like mad.'

He told her she was asking hi mto give up everything he held dear but she shrugged: 'Look at it another way. Look at it as never having to worry when the phone rings again.' He sighed: 'It never leaves me. Mo matter what I'm doing or where I am, it never leaves me.'

Growing impatient, she snapped: 'Put it another way then. You owe me Tony, and this way you buy my silence for the longest time! You will sell me those shares. You'll meet me at the factory. Let's say seven o'clock. That way the girls will be gone, I don't want to see them. You'll sign on the dotted line and hand the keys over. You'd best start packing your bags Tony. This is your last day in Weatherfield.'
