Early morning in the corner shop and Umed looked round anxiously at the door then looked at his watch and cried: 'It's ten past. You promised faithfully you would be up and gone by seven o'clock.' An all too familiar voice cried back from the back room: 'I'm folding me duvet!'

Teresa emerged from the back room and wailed: 'Hold on to your knickers. What's the panic.' Umed cried: 'My nephew? Remember him?' and she replied sarcastically: 'Ah, now let me see. Was he the one made me destitute?' Umed told her he would be the next one if he gave Dev the smallest excuse and hurriedly bundled her out of the shop. Umed clutched his chest as he heard her cry: 'Morning Dev.' and didn't see the funny side as she poked her head back round the door and grinned: 'Gotcha!'

As they discussed the christening, Helen reminded them there was another important day to remember that week: 'It's a year since that terrible night. I thought we could go into town to get some flowers for the grave.' Maria told her she had planned to get her own and Tony smiled: 'You were thinking of your posey weren't you?' and Maria nodded: 'I was thinking roses from me and baby buds from Liam.' Helen seemed to accept this without any histrionics and them cried excitedly: 'Oh that reminds me, I have something lovely to show you.' and rushed upstairs.

Kevin spotted Molly as he opened up the garage and he rushed over to her. She asked if he was alright and he sighed: 'Better than I deserve to be.' She told him not to beat himself up about it and he replied: 'No, you neither. It's not like we are going to hurt anyone is it?' As she headed for the shop he asked: 'Mol? Tonight? Usual place?' and she smiled back coquettishly: 'I'll do my best, I promise.'

Helen came down brandishing a somewhat old fashioned looking christening gown and enthused: 'Here you are. A bit of an iron and it's ready to go.' Barry smiled: 'Bit of an old friend that is.' and Helen smiled fondly: 'Been through all the Connors this has, Paul, Liam and Michelle.' Barry told her Ryan had worn it too and she beamed: 'And Ryan that's right, and now it's baby Liam's turn. What do you think?'

Maria told her the material was lovely and Tony nodded: 'It's a lovely thought, the idea that it's been passed down.' Barry frowned: 'But?' and Tony smiled: 'Maria's already picked an outfit for the baby.' Helen cried: 'But it's an old tradition.' but Barry quickly soothed: 'But not worth falling out for.' Maria sighed: 'Helen, I like new stuff. I want it to be a happy day. I don't want to be thinking about...' Helen sniffled: 'You don't want to be thinking about my Liam.' Tony told her diplomatically: 'It's been a difficult year for everyone. Bittersweet. What Maria means is...' but she replied: 'Thank you Tony, I know what she means. Keep out of it Helen is what she means.'

Michelle arrived and cried: 'Oh Mum, not that old thing.' Tony explained that Maria had bought something new and Michelle cried: 'Course she has. This thing is a museum piece.' Helen sniffed that Liam would have wanted to uphold the family tradition. Michelle laughed: 'He'd have wanted him a Man City strip.' and they all laughed as she did a passable impersonation of her late brother: 'Start him as he means to go on. A striker for City, that's my boy.' Maria conceded that they could take some pictures of the baby in it and Tony listened grimly as Michelle enthused: 'We could put him and his daddy in a double frame. No-one will be able to tell them apart.'

Teresa tried to beg some food off Lloyd but he tore into her telling her that thanks to her him and Liz were through. She shrugged: 'Maybe it will blow over. She might take you back, you never know.' He wailed: 'You wait for a woman like Liz your entire life and then just when it's working out...' Teresa snapped: 'Oh she's no real catch that one.' but he yelled angrily: 'You reckon? Well maybe I don't care what you think. Now keep out of my life from now on. Well out!'

Overhearing the end of this exchange, Umed watched as Lloyd stomped off, pleading into his mobile phone for Liz to answer his calls. He told Teresa: 'He doesn't mean it.' but she sighed: 'Yes he does. It's what I do best, turn everyone against me. And the more I like them, the more they end up hating me.'

Tony popped back to the house to find Maria about to go to the baby clinic. He told her he could go with her but she told him: 'There's no need. You only stand in line for half an hour, he gets weighed and you come home.' He told her he didn't mind and looked rather upset and disappointed as she told him: 'I bet you've got loads of work to do anyway, the amount of time you've been spending with us. I'll see you later.'

Darryl cringed as Umed confided he had let Teresa find refuge in the shop storeroom and sighed: 'No-one has a mother like mine. Dossing down at her age.' Umed enthused: 'She's a free spirit. I can imagine her when she was young. Marianne Faithful on a motorcycle.' but Daryl snorted: 'Vicky Pollard on a moped more like! Anyway, what do you want?' Umed told him he'd come to help with the packaging delivery and gasped as Darryl told him: 'I cancelled it. We've not used last months yet.' Umed asked: 'Business is bad?' and Darryl shrugged: 'People don't want doners. I'm bored with serving 'em, they're bore with eating 'em.' Umed told him if that was the case it was time to ring the changes: 'On with thinking caps!'

Michelle told Liz she had a visitor and she looked up to find Teresa stood there. Michelle screeched that she'd told her to wait in the bar. Liz told her to get out but she replied: 'A full and frank apology is what I've come to offer, not more trouble. Besides, don't you want to know the truth? What really happened?' Liz snorted that they could all work that out for themselves but Teresa asked pointedly: ' But can you though? Is there any tea in that pot? I'm parched.' before plonking herself down at the table.

Liz assured Michelle she's be fine and she left them to it. Teresa picked up the teapot only for Liz to smirk: 'It's empty.' Teresa told her she'd give a year of her life for a cuppa but Liz merely smiled and lifted her own cup to her lips. Teresa told her she was to blame for everything: 'The poor boy barely knew what was happening. Well out of it he was.' Liz looked at her impassively and asked: 'Is that it?' Teresa replied: 'I took advantage. You see, you're being all hard and that but I know better. You think the world of that man and he thinks the world of you.' but Liz told her she could go back to Lloyd and tell him she tried her best.

She told her that Lloyd didn't know she was there and sighed: 'Come on Liz. You've got to feel sorry for him.' but Liz replied icily: 'No I don't. Bye.' Teresa shrugged: 'Right, well if you're too bitter and twisted to accept a genuine apology.' Liz asked if she had actually apologised but she snapped: 'I've nothing to apologise for love if you can't keep your man, if he's had enough of a saggy old shrew with nowt going for her except a cellar full of beer.' Liz ordered her out and Teresa taunted: 'Who can blame him for going for a real woman?'

As Liz told Michelle to ensure Teresa never came behind the bar again, Teresa smirked: 'No danger of that. Time used to be when landladies had a bit of class.' Liz eyed her venomously and retorted: 'Time used to be when sad little slappers knew their place.'

Arriving back at work, Tony paused and listened with great interest as he overheard Luke on the phone to his bank manager, pleading for an extension on his overdraft. He walked in as Luke was crying: 'All I am asking for is an small increase. I have a good income, you can see that. It's just a question of cash flow.' He stopped as Tony smiled: 'Don't mind me.' and rang off, telling the bank: 'Just forget it. You're a waste of time.' Tony smiled: 'Problems? I can sub you a tenner till payday if you want.' and looked quietly pleased as Luke snapped unhappily: 'It's fine!'

Teresa asked if she could stay at the shop again that night but Umed told her: 'Can't be done. Dev is opening up tomorrow. However, all is not lost. How would you feel about a new career and a new home?' She asked him to stop talking in riddles and he smiled: 'You could earn some money making some of your excellent curry for me. Lots of it for doner kebabs in the shop.' She told him she had nowhere to live let alone anywhere to make curry in and he smiled: 'Ah, all part of the plan. Be here this evening. Uncle Umed will work his magic.'

Back from yet another shopping jaunt, Rosie proudly showed off her latest purchases to Michelle who mused: 'How much were they.? No change from two hundred I'll bet.' Rosie beamed: 'A bit more than that but hey, you only live once.' Michelle told her she could have paid her electricity bill with that but Rosie opined glibly: 'Yeah, but you pay your electric bill and it's like gone whereas these will be with me forever.' Michelle looked at a bemused Luke and sighed: 'Yeah, what am I on about, wasting good money on paying bills?'

Luke told her it was her money and she should do whatever she wanted with it. She snorted: 'Yeah I will, not that it's anything to do with you.' He smarmed: 'You're right but I can't help admiring style and that's something you've got in spades.' He received a whatever for his trouble but continued: 'I think I owe you a drink, or five.' She looked to be weakening and when he smiled: 'Or a bottle of champagne? Or a crate?' she rolled her eyes and went to sit down while he ordered.

Lloyd walked in hoping to see Liz but was warned by Michelle that it was a definite no go. He then found himself accosted by Umed who told him: 'It grieves me to see two dear friends fall out.' Lloyd frowned: 'Me and Liz?' but he replied: 'No, you and Teresa.' Lloyd asked what it had got to do with him and was surprised as Umed told him: 'That lady has got a very big heart. Did you know she went to see Liz and plead on your behalf?' This was clearly news to Lloyd and he murmured: 'Did she really?'

Maria listened as Helen looked through a photo album she had brought with her and sighed happily: 'That's Liam at nineteen, and there's Carla. That must have been when they first started courting, her and Paul. Oh they got on so well, the three of them. They had their ups and down you know but...' Maria looked over at a distinctly uncomfortable looking Tony as Helen enthused: 'And there's Liam at the wedding. He made a great speech didn't he love?' Barry called back from tyhe kitchen: 'haven't you had enough of tem old photos by now?' but Helen barely looked up.

She looked at another one and sighed: 'And that's his last school photo. So young, so full of promise.' Tony finally asked: 'We have photos. You gave her loads. Are you trying to upset Maria?'

Helen snapped back at him: 'All I have done is make a family album so that my grandson will know who he is, so that when he grows up and has his own school photos he can say look, that's where I got me eyes from and me smile.' She broke down sobbing and Maria put a comforting arm round her and told her it was alright. Helen sighed: 'I miss him so much.' and Tony looked on dourly as Maria told her softly: 'I know you do.'

Brought together by Umed, Teresa told Lloyd she was sorry Liz wouldn't listen and he told her he was sorry for blaming it all on her. Umed opined: 'She's a very forgiving person, even though she's lost everything and has nowhere to lay her head.' Lloyd asked if she'd not found anywhere and she told him she'd cope: 'There's always park benches and things.' Lloyd sighed guiltily: 'Alright. One night, and I mean just one. And no-one's to know about it.' As he went back into the pub, Umed looked at Teresa and smiled: 'Phase One accomplished!'

With Helen and Barry bathing Liam, Maria told Tony the rowing was doing her head in. 'Ask them to move into a hotel.' was his solution but she told him she couldn't do that. He shrugged: 'Well it's me they're kicking against. Maybe I should move out? Just for a night or two.' He was clearly expecting her to say he would do no such thing and got something of a shock when she sighed: 'Well if you think it's for the best.' He snapped: 'Or should I move out for more than a couple of nights? Maybe this has made you realise you haven't moved on as far as you thought you had.' She cried: 'That's not what I said. Every way I turn someone is going on about the grave, the flowers. Why can't you just give me some space?' His face darkened as he replied: 'Right. That's easily done!'

Luke told Rosie they should do a club but she replied frostily: 'I do that with my mates.' He told her he was still her mate but she told him: 'Last time I looked you were an ex boss, an ex date and a dumpee!' He sighed: 'I was a clown. I've been kicking meself ever since.' '

He continued with a little boy lost look on his face: 'See Rosie, fellas are really really stupid. Shall I get us another drink?' Still trying to appear loftily cool, she nodded and it looked like Luke was beginning to win her back round.

At the hotel, Molly told Kevin she needed to be home by eleven. He told her he couldn't stop thinking about her and that they should plan another day away somewhere but she told him: 'No, we've just had Chester. Besides it's my birthday on Monday and he might have something planned.' Kev sighed that they had better make the most of tonight then and she she sighed in reply: 'You know what I'd really like? Just a cuddle.' He smiled: 'Okay, come on.' and led her to the bed where they lay in each other's arms.

Seeing Tony picking up his car keys,. Helen frowned: 'Surely you can't be going out at this time of night?' He told her he had an early start in the morning and Maria hastily added: 'He needs his sleep and Liam's been waking up.' Helen told them she hoped it wasn't because of anything she'd said but Tony replied diplomatically: 'It's work Helen.'

Helen bade them goodnight and went upstairs. Maria asked him if he's got everything he needed at the flat and he sighed: 'Everything I need is right here.' They hugged and Tony looked positively bereft.

As he made her up a bed on the sofa, Lloyd told Teresa he had an early start in the morning but would try not to wake her. She smiled: 'Don't worry about me, I sleep like a baby. Clear conscience you see.' He said good night and told her to help herself to a bath or a shower in the morning. She thanked him and watched as went off to his bedroom.

Dropping the duvet onto the sofa, she padded softly towards his room clearly hoping that a second performance might be on the cards but he called out: 'I can see your shadow under the door. What are you doing?' She blustered: 'Nothing. Just standing here.' and smiled quietly to herself as he cried: 'The bedroom door is locked so don't waste your time! Night night.'

As Tony left the house and walked to his car, he looked round as he heard Rosie screech drunkenly: 'Hey there's Mr Gordon! Hey, you're too late for The Rovers Tone.'

Luke asked if he was alright and he replied that he was fine. Seeing the bag in his hand, Rosie asked: 'Are you going on holiday?' Tony blustered: 'I wish. Just collecting some stuff from the flat. Paperwork.' Rosie giggled drunkenly: 'Whaever. We will see you when we see you. Mwah!' and, with Luke holding her up, they set off for his flat.

Tony climbed into his car and slammed the door shut. His face was like thunder. Having found himself unexpectedly on the losing side in a choice between he and Helen, what would he do now?
