First arrived
Eric, or Pollard as he’s become known, arrived in the village on 30th September 1986. He was only due to appear for a few episodes but proved popular and is now one of the show’s longest-serving characters.
Memorable moments
- When he got a taste of his own medicine. He fell for a beautiful woman called Debbie who conned him out of £2,000. It was money ‘borrowed’ from the Hotton Market account and he had to sell his car to clear the debt. But the rotter stole Seth Armstrong’s bike so he could get around.
- Eric saved Pearl Ladderbanks' life when her house caught fire. He got her out but managed to fall and hurt his leg and then had to be saved himself.
About the actor
Chris Chittell is best known for his role in Emmerdale, a part that he’s played for over 20 years. Chris also appeared in the movie Zulu Dawn in 1979 and the 1970s science fiction drama The Tomorrow People.
Chris can often be found pounding the streets in his trainers completing numerous fun runs for charity.
