01Despite his dalliances with numerous women, Carl was once married and has two children. But he was estranged from his ex, Colleen, by the time he made his first appearance in the Dales.
02Carl was still married to Colleen when he started life in the village, but that didn't stop him wooing the lovely Louise Appleton. All he took away from that relationship was a sore cheek, when Louise found out he was married and gave him a good slap.
03A millionaire and a Dingle may not have seemed the ideal match, but Carl fell for feisty Chas pretty fast. He even went chasing after her when she joined the army, sending her on a treasure hunt as part of his marriage proposal. But, when Carl killed his dad, Tom, his guilt changed him and he dumped Chas.
04This was an interesting one... Chloe was supposed to be best friends with Chas when she and Carl were an item. However, cunning Chloe developed a crush on Carl and deliberately broke them up so she could have him all to herself. Chas soon realised what had happened and Chloe didn't know what hit her.
05When Tom King's former flame, Carrie Nicholls, turned up in the village, it soon emerged she and Carl had 'a thing' several years back. This caused tension when she made her surprise appearance, but they decided enough water had gone under the bridge for them to forget about it.
06During a short break from his relationship with Chas, Carl kept it in the family and had a brief fling with Delilah Dingle. She fell for him and was gutted when he decided to make another go of it with Chas.
07When Carl murdered his father, Detective Grace Barraclough decided to seduce him and reel him in. But what started as a dangerous game turned into something else and they developed feelings for each other. It all ended tragically when Carl confessed to Grace and they were heading for the police station, only for Grace to be run over by a van. She died instantly.
08Lexi Nicholls didn't last five minutes as Carl's girlfriend the first time around. He dumped her when he found out she'd been spying on him for his brother Matthew. They eventually got back together.
09Despite Lexi's efforts to be there for Carl, all he wanted was Chas. Chas was on the verge of giving their relationship another go, but her son, Aaron, put the kibosh on that by making his mum choose between them. Chas chose Aaron and Carl was gutted.
10Knowing their history, Lexi felt insecure whenever she saw Chas and Carl so much as talking to each other. Believing it was the only way of having him all to herself, she asked him to marry her. Carl was hesitant. By now, Lexi knew that Carl murdered his father and Carl couldn't risk her telling anyone, so he said yes.
11Carl was in a state on his wedding day and almost stood Lexi up at the altar. He met up with Chas and told her that he was still in love with her but she told him they were in the past. It broke his heart, but he went ahead and married Lexi anyway...
12However, when Carl refused to have a baby with Lexi, she went a bit mad. She took Nicola and Jimmy's baby up onto the hospital roof and demanded to know why Carl wouldn't start a family with her - at which point he confessed that he never loved her. She then left the village.
13It wasn't long before Carl was after Chas again. Despite her relationship with Paddy, Carl pounced as soon as the vet was out of the way, leaving Chas with a real dilemma. Would she choose reliable Paddy? Or Carl, the love of her life?More galleries
