Nicholson's success in the William Cross Pro-Am series of events in August saw him edge out last year's Australian representative Pat Orreal to play in the 2008 Grand Slam of Darts.
 
Born in England but now based in Melbourne, Nicholson took victory in the Australian Singles last December and has since been in superb form on the Australian Grand Prix circuit to also qualify for the PDC World Championship next month.
 
The runner-up to Robert Thornton in the Australian Open Players Championship this summer, he has won 15 ranked titles in the last year and came close to qualifying for the Las Vegas Desert Classic.
