England captain Steven Gerrard has admitted that failures in past major tournaments had made him consider his international future.
In an exclusive chat with ITV's Gabriel Clarke ahead of England's opening Group D fixture against France on Monday, Gerrard said that he had thought about quitting after disappointments at the 2006 and 2010 World Cups.
"It does go through your mind," Gerrard said. "Have you had enough at this level? Have you had enough of failing?"
"But I think the easy option would be to quit and call it a day," Gerrard added. "I'm a fighter."
