2012 Community Shield: betting preview

Premier League champions Manchester City are fancied to erase the memory of last year's Community Shield heartbreak by edging out 2012 FA Cup winners Chelsea at Villa Park on Sunday afternoon.

Roberto Mancini's side cruised into a 2-0 lead against neighbours United at Wembley 12 months ago only for the Red Devils to hit back through Chris Smalling and a Nani brace, with the winning goal coming in injury time.

This time they will go into the pre-season showpiece on the back of five straight warm-up victories, having got the better of Besiktas, Arsenal, Malaysia, Wolfsburg and Limerick and City can be backed at 13/10 with Blue Square or William Hill to prevail after 90 minutes.

Those wanting to play it a little safer can get 4/6 for the Premier League champs to lift the trophy, with Chelsea 5/4 at best with Sky Bet to add this piece of silverware to their FA Cup and Champions League triumphs at the end of last term.

Sergio Aguero has hit the back of the net in three of City's friendly wins, so 15/8 at Stan James for him to strike at any time here appeals, as does 11/2 for the Argentina ace to break the deadlock.

Match prediction: Chelsea 1-2 Man City
