England goalscorer Jermain Defoe said he took great satisfaction from his goal against Italy, his 16th international strike.
"Even at my age!" he laughed when asked by ITV's Gabriel Clarke whether he felt scoring for England helped prove some doubters wrong. "Every time I play I give 100%, and it's always nice to score for your country," Defoe added.
Meanwhile Tom Cleverley, who debuted alongside Manchester United team-mate Michael Carrick in England's midfield, was also satisfied with what was a quietly impressive performance against a tough Italian midfield.
"I managed to get on the ball at times, they made it hard for me with some hard tackles," "But hopefully I've impressed the manager and I'll be called up again."
