Referee Dean Whitestone said he had no qualms about calling off the FA Cup First Round match between Braintree and Tranmere, with both player safety and the quality of the game proving a serious issue.
"It was an easy decision from the referee's point of view," the referee told ITV's Gabriel Clarke. "It's still raining now...clearly the safety of the players is an issue and also the match as a spectacle."
Whitestone was quick to bat away suggestions from Tranmere boss Ronnie Moore and his Braintree counterpart Alan Devonshire that the match could have gone ahead.
"I look at it from an entirely different perspective," Whitestone said. "We wouldn't have had much of a game at all."
