Schalke v Arsenal: Key battles

Arsenal face a tough clash tomorrow night as they look to make amends for their shock home defeat to Schalke a fortnight ago. Here, we take a look at some of the key battles ahead in Gelsenkirchen:

KLAAS-JAN HUNTELAAR v PER MERTESACKER

Free-scoring Dutch forward Huntelaar showed his class at the Emirates Stadium to set Schalke on course for a memorable victory. Arsenal centre-back Mertesacker will have to be on his toes in his homeland to ensure the forward does not enjoy the same success tomorrow evening.

ROMAN NEUSTADTER v SANTI CAZORLA

Cazorla has proved an inspired acquisition by Arsene Wenger and has quickly established himself as the Gunners' heartbeat. Neustadter helped cut his supply line to the attack in London and will need to do the same on home turf.

BENEDIKT HOWEDES v OLIVIER GIROUD

Giroud has not had the same impact as Cazorla since his summer arrival, but still has the ability to punish the Royal Blues. The France international will be looking to add to his three Arsenal goals tomorrow and much of the responsibility will fall on Schalke captain Howedes if he is to be denied.
