Premier League champions Manchester City will trial safe standing, if the Football Association approves of the initiative.

The club are only the second top-flight to come out in support of safe standing, after Aston Villa.

"Manchester City Football Club is supportive of initiatives to enhance safely, our fans’ matchday experience if supported by the appropriate football authorities," a club spokesperson told the Manchester Evening News.

City have a proud history of terraced stands, with the old Kippax being infamous for its atmosphere prior to demolition, in favour of an all-seater version at Maine Road.

The move could be a big boost for the crowd at Eastlands, which has failed to recreate the same noise that they could create in Moss Side.
