Defeated Newcastle boss Alan Pardew pointed the finger at Brighton's David Lopez for his part in the second-half dismissal of Magpies captain Shola Ameobi in a 2-0 defeat to the Seagulls at the AMEX.
"We didn't have enough quality players on the pitch today," Pardew admitted to ITV's Ned Boulting. "The younger players did as much as they possibly could, and it didn't help when we went a man down."
And Pardew said he was disappointed with the behaviour of Lopez, who went down injured under a challenge from Ameobi which earned the player an early bath.
"He looks up, sees that the ref's walking over and starts rolling around," Pardew said. "We're a bit disappointed with that, as a fellow professional."
