Former Manchester City midfielder Michael Johnson has stated that he's been battling with personal problems in recent years.

The 24-year-old ex-England under-21 international had his contract terminated by the Premier League champions in December after more than three years without appearing for the club.

Following the news being made public, the Urmston-born player told the Manchester Evening News: “I have been attending the Priory Clinic for a number of years now with regard to my mental health, and would be grateful if I could now be left alone to live the rest of my life. I am disappointed more than anyone, but that’s the way it goes.”
