Tottenham v Manchester United: Key battles

Barclays Premier League leaders Manchester United travel to face Tottenham on Sunday with revenge on their minds after falling to a 3-2 home defeat to Spurs back in September.

Here, we take a look at some of the key battles that could determine the outcome of the match at White Hart Lane.

MICHAEL DAWSON v ROBIN VAN PERSIE

The challenge of stopping red-hot van Persie is not an easy one but Spurs captain Dawson is capable of handling the Red Devils striker. The Dutchman was rested for the FA Cup replay over West Ham but has scored 10 in his last 10 games.

GARETH BALE v RAFAEL

Bale struck the second goal in Spurs' win at Old Trafford and will be looking to punish the United defence with his pace once again. Rafael is developing into Sir Alex Ferguson's first-choice right-back but, although he adds an extra dimension when United are attacking, he is still prone to a lapse in concentration at the back.

JERMAIN DEFOE v RIO FERDINAND

Defoe has only scored once in his last seven appearances for Spurs but always provides a threat with his pace and movement. His former West Ham team-mate Ferdinand will have a battle on his hands but has the experience, alongside skipper Nemanja Vidic, to keep the best strikers in the world quiet.
