Blow for Burkina Faso as Traore ruled out of Africa Cup of Nations

Alain Traore scores two fantastic strikes earlier in the tournament

Lorient striker Alain Traore is facing a spell on the sidelines after suffering a torn thigh muscle on international duty at the African Nations Cup.

The Burkina Faso forward is the leading scorer at this year's tournament with three goals, but lasted only seven minutes of last night's Group C clash with Zambia before leaving a heavily-sanded pitch on a stretcher.

Traore had started the match - which ended in a 0-0 draw to eliminate defending champions Zambia while Burkina Faso advanced - with his left leg strapped up.

Lorient have confirmed on their website that the 25-year-old has torn the quadriceps in his left thigh, an injury which will end his participation in the African Nations Cup and almost certainly delay his return to action for the Ligue 1 club.

He is due to have an ultrasound scan tomorrow in South Africa before a decision is made on when he will return to France.
