Cristiano Ronaldo is the best player in the world – Sir Alex Ferguson exclusive interview

On the eve of Manchester United's make-or-break Champions League clash with Real Madrid, Red Devils boss Sir Alex Ferguson has revealed his continued admiration for former United winger Cristiano Ronaldo.

Asked by ITV's Gabriel Clarke whether the Portuguese star was the best in the world, Ferguson responded: "At this moment in time I think he is."

"Ronaldo's a special player, we know all about that," Ferguson added.

"He's a mature man now. I think he'll get a great reception, but he's got a job to do - he plays for Real Madrid now - but we'll do our best."

Ferguson also suggested Tuesday's game at Old Trafford represented an opportunity for some of his younger players to come of age.

And when told that his opposite number Jose Mourinho believed Real Madrid would score at Old Trafford, Ferguson responded: "I think they will. But so will we."
